What do you think of Farmville?

Asked by Mtl_zack (6781points) September 3rd, 2009

I really enjoy my virtual Facebook farm, but other people think it’s total crap. What do you think? What level are you on? What’s your stance on the fact that it is the fastest growing game on the internet (even more users than WoW)?

I finally blocked the application, because I was so annoyed by lost cows showing up on my page.
My neice was on her page begging for a horse/rooster. I restrained from an incredibly rude comment, and had to block any and all farmville from my page.

I went through a very intense Farmtown phase, but I’ve slowed down quite a bit. My son loves playing on my Farmville though. He loves planting and harvesting.

This insults professional farmers such as myself by turning farming into some “fun” virtual game.
I’D LIKE TO SEE SOME OF YOU PEOPLE TRY TO GROW SOME VEGGIES IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER

hug_of_war's avatar

Some people are a wee too obsessed with it.

jamielynn2328's avatar

I enjoy the Farm, but I can see how it can get out of hand. If you are involved in real life activities and have to run to the computer to harvest your farmville crops, you may have a slight issue..

WOW! Talk about farmville. I just got an invitation to join it on facebook. Wtf!

Capt_Bloth's avatar

I think it’s fun, as far as waste-of-time games go. I hate the fact that it always tries to publish to my wall, though. I like the game, but that doesn’t mean I want all my friends to see how much of my life I waste on a pointless game.

casheroo's avatar

I have fun with it. I’m a little upset that the awards I should have been given never showed up. lol. It entertains me. I’m shocked it’s so popular though.

I sit with the crap crowd.

I like Farm Town. Its the one that a lot of my friends are on. I try to only have one type of each game category that I play (Farm Town instead of Farmville or the other ones, Mafia Wars instead of Mobsters and so on) so I’m not playing Farmville at all. While I didn’t have it blocked, I also found all the lost cows annoying.

Bluefreedom's avatar

I’ve played it. I continue to play it. I do not let it dominate my Facebook existence. I’m a mouthpiece for the wicked puppeteers that wish to promote degenerative, time wasting, inane, pseudo-entertaining games and applications found throughout the internet. Rage against the machine…..all of you.

I like Country Story. No spam. Low commitment.

My wife is on Farmville and Farmtown, and I gotta tell ya, I don’t see the point of virtual farming….if I play a game, I like to play for maybe an hour or less maybe a couple times a week…that’s if I REALLY like a game, but my wife and I share a laptop, and I’m looking for work, and right now my son is off school, so I’m not nearly as productive as I could be because she spends fucking hours on that stupid thing. I wish to fuck it would go away. Of course, I could be working right now instead of being on Fluther, so I can’t complain too loudly not if I know what’s good for me.

casheroo's avatar

@dalepetrie Are you secretly my husband? lol

Supacase's avatar

@dalepetrie You could be my husband, too. He hates Farm Town and never misses an opportunity to remind me that it is a ridiculous waste of my time.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

I don’t care what other people do with their free time, but I wouldn’t be caught dead playing something called Farmville or FarmTown. I don’t play internet games anyway, and I have my facebook set to block as many applications as possible.

casheroo's avatar

@Supacase Mine felt that way about Fluther, until I made him use it lol

babiturtle36's avatar

I’m a bit too obsessed with farmtown. It’s fun!! My mother in law just went out of the country for a week and she wants me to take care of her farms! Haha it’s simple fun and a time to relax :)

hungryhungryhortence's avatar

Farmville and other facebook games are great for insomnia, didn’t think I’d like it but I get a kick out of seeing how many lost black sheep I can snatch up.

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

I only want to grow things if I can actually dig my fingers into real soil. Video farming is a complete waste of time.

dalepetrie's avatar

@Supacase & @casheroo – I have no problem with my wife having mindless activities, she absolutely deserves them since she’s the only one actually working in our household right now, it just hampers me and it becomes frustrating when I’ve got a backlog of 50 jobs to apply to and she spends 4 hours harvesting virtual crops.

casheroo's avatar

@dalepetrie lol, how big is her farm? I can’t see it taking THAT long. You have to harvest, plow, then replant. Doesn’t take me hours.

NaturalMineralWater's avatar

I like it, but apparently I need more friends to become an agricultural uber-stud.

mrentropy's avatar

It kills time, and I’m all right with that. Plus it gives my family a way to beat me at something that’s less action-oriented. I think it’s still a bit buggy, and I think that eventually the amusement will wear off.

jonsblond's avatar

I just started playing it. It’s a silly time waster but I don’t mind. Sometimes we all need a mindless distraction from life’s problems. My husband works on a farm so he has no desire to play, but he sure enjoys teasing me about it.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

When I joined Facebook in June, I was so swamped with those farm games that I blocked every one of them. I got sick of it in a hurry. I got tired of cows popping up on my page, too. The only game I play is Vampire Wars. I love vampire stuff anyway, so that’s right up my alley. But as far as this farm crap…no.

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

why does everyone see the need to kill time. Life is short, and doing things that waste time will come back to haunt you when you are old and grey and realize you could have lived your life rather than wasted it on pointless endeavors that accomplished nothing. Live in the moment, and enjoy your time here on the planet we call home. The end comes sooner than you realize, and this is the only life we get, as far as anyone knows for sure.

Waste of time to you, but people could say that about the hobbies you have as well. I guess I find it a waste of time to diminish other people for doing something they find entertaining.

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

@casheroo, I wasn’t harping on anyone for hobbies, or interests, or anything they find as entertainment. My rant was with the term killing time which I find illogical given that we are mortal beings. We will all soon face a scarlet conclusion, to borrow a line from the Steve Miller Band, and to hurry time by ‘killing’ it seems wrong in some manner.

I meant to diminish no one, I was simply pointing out that the phrase ‘killing time’ seems wrong and improper. Perhaps one should say ‘enjoying ourselves doing things that entertain us’ rather than the other term.

Sorry if you thought I was being malicious or insensitive.

dalepetrie's avatar

@casheroo – basically she’s in about 2 months gotten to somewhere between level 25 and 30, gotten like 15 neighbors, and I think she spends a lot of time working other peoples’ farms to make fake money so she can buy fake things for her fake farm. Just feels asinine to me.

tiffyandthewall's avatar

the only facebook apps i tend to go near are the ‘pick 5’ nonsense ones. the most interest i’ve ever taken in farmville is ‘liking’ someone’s notification that they found a black sheep.

avvooooooo's avatar

I like Yoville… But then I like the interior decorating aspect of it better than anything. :)

Capt_Bloth's avatar

I’m getting very tired of all of facebooks games and its general sleaziness.
