I am a phone worker (Communications Workers of America), and I would say it goes about 50/50 between the parties, so it is an accurate representation.

Apparently, 40% of AFL/CIO members vote Republican source

Important detail there, Harp…40% vote Republican or have voted Republican in the past. I would expect the percentage of members that consistently vote Republican is much lower.

I know a few republicans that have manual jobs that should have a union. Peculiarly, now days, unions seem to include government workers, ball players, and airline pilots: the ones who really need representation are retail workers under major publicly traded corporations that are taken advantage of.

@lefteh Yeah, I’d like to think so, but look at the table here . To quote: ”...in eight of the last fourteen presidential elections, Republicans have captured at least forty percent of the votes from union households.”

Unions in general, yes, but my point was just that the AFL-CIO tends to lean more to the left of other unions.
Great link, very useful.

That 40% stat is much higher than I would have expected. So many of Michigan autoworks are Catholic and other Christian faiths, and tend to be religious. I think there is a conflict for them when voting.

goes to show 99.9% of statistics are bullshit

There are 3 kinds of people. Those that can count, and those that can’t.

look as a former AFSCME local president in one our states largest locals for state employees I can tell you across the state we had over 75 percent conservatives who did not vote like the UNION GERALD MC INTY said we did he was saying a bunch of propanganda. He wanted the Us to think that the rank and file were supporting the candidates when we had big time candidates come into our state ole Gerald and the other big shot would go off and hire homeless nonunion temp workers to hold up signs for 25 to 59 bucks and free pizza and they would get a tee shirt to wear but they would have to give it back once the “rally” wasover. heheheh what a joke.
