Is the a App for the iPhone that lets you use Java?

Asked by Bugabear (1712points) September 8th, 2009

I recently got a Jailbroken and modded iPod Touch for free and I was wondering if there are any Apps that let you use Java. I know that the iPhone doesn’t support Java but Im sure there has to be at least something that would let you emulate it or something.

Like I sad its Jailbroken and modded so violating the terms of agreement doesnt mean anything to me.

I don’t think so, but I don’t really know, my iPhone isn’t jailbroken so I can’t have a real answer for you.

I seriously doubt it, but you could start here: http://cydia.saurik.com/

Also your iPod may be crashing and slow because it’s jailbroken, which I noticed you complaining about in the other thread.

Technically it would be possible, but would require a jailbroken phone and someone would need to implement/port the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to the phone. Java doesn’t enjoy widespread use on ARM—the processor that powers iPhones and iPod Touches—just quite yet. This is optional but unless you have precompiled Java bytecode you would need a Java compiler written in C or Objective-C (or ARM assembler code).

Yes, the hardware is physically capable of doing so. And because you’re looking for jailbroken apps, you’re not concerned about the iPhone SDK.

So, a quick Google search and the second hit was How To Install, Compile, Run Java On iPhone.

Good luck!

@robmandu Nice find! Just be aware that it’s J2ME and not J2SE or J2EE.

Thank you very much fluther. @StellarAirman And no Im not complaining about my iPod Touch being slow but me friend just really hates his iPhone. My other friend got an Android phone so he gave me his iPod touch for free. I also was poking around on the internet and found some free Java Games for a Samsung instinct which for some reason dont work on my G1. Also before I ask fluther I usually try and do a google search but it came up with either Steve jobs not liking Java or forums asking the same question. Perhaps it’s because I’m using their new Caffeine or I’m just bad at searching google.
