I just watched this movie and am a bit in awe by it. I really don’t know what to think of the film. First off, it was visually gorgeous. The dialogue was explicitly minimal, and realistic when used. The effects were amazingly (and surprisingly) realistic.
But there’s a lot more to this movie. I feel as though there is a deeper meaning outside of fear of reproduction. What are your thoughts on it? Any interpretations? Favorite scenes?

I’m a lover of art and culture and esoteric knowledge, but I hated this movie. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
I’m in love with the radiator girl.
I don’t know exactly, I saw it a long, long time ago. I got bored early on. I guess I prefer more coherent plots and I’m not impressed with experimental filming and visual techniques. My brother was in love with The New World because of its visuals, whereas I barely noticed it.
Maybe I should give Eraserhead another shot. On the other hand, I think about Mulholland Drive and I think I’d rather shoot myself.
I don’t like David Lynch movies in general… too weird for my little brain, I suppose. That said, I’ve never seen this particular one so I probably shouldn’t be answering this question at all. <hangs head in shame, and ducks around the corner>
I watched it a long, long time ago and I remember thinking it was weird, good but just plain weird. I think I was too young to see any kind of deeper meaning in it. Maybe if I watched it again?
@augustlan If you don’t like David Lynch movies, I don’t think you’d like this one. I think it’s his ‘Lynchiest’.
@AstroChuck Quite some time ago, a guy in my life said I was like radiator girl; never understood why and not even sure it was a compliment…
I liked it, though I didn’t love it. I haven’t seen it in years; I think I should see it again. It’s almost so weird that it reaches too far to be deep.
Boring—typical “slice of life” fare glorifying parenthood.
I had nightmares about the horse fetus for a while. Gah.
What a coincidance. I watched it the other day with my new housemates.
Ugh, the movie is just weird but i was glued to it once i got a hang of it. After 30 mins, both my housemates gave up , and we moved on to the akira hasegawa’s Rashamon – a very meaningful movie.
There is a moment where they are having dinner, sitting at the table, and you realize the conversation isn’t as interesting as the noises under the sink.
I really didn’t care for this movie, but it is interesting.
I was going to use the word “Lynchiest”, so you got lurve for beating me to it.
Kurasawa’s Rashomon is one of my favorites!
I’ve never seen it because as a kid the title scared me so much…and I guess I’ve blocked it out since then. I will revisit it!
In heaven, everything is fine.
Funny, I’m a huge David Lynch fan and I’ve never seen it, thanks for reminding me, I’ll see it soon, let you know what I think.
The only David Lynch number I can’t get next to. A little to high-brow for me, I guess.
Haha, I liked it. Movies like that are my natural high.
Ugh, watched this soon after it was available, but it was really poor quality. The sounds made by the… foetus? Baby? Bandaged, weird, squirmy… like @laureth – had nightmares about it. HATED it. Have managed to avoid it since. Ugh, again.
