What are some affordable, coastal towns/cities to live in in South America?

Asked by emilyrose (2277points) September 9th, 2009

I want to move to S.A. for a few months. Prefer somewhere on the coast, beautiful, with some infrastructure (ie not in the middle of nowhere) and a Spanish language school. Thoughts? Might also consider Central America but prefer south.

What is your idea of affordable? And if you want a Spanish language school, you’ll obviously have to rule out all of Brazil…

Idea of affordable: housing for under $300 US a month…. restaurants serve food that is not US prices but somewhat cheaper. Yes I know I can’t do brazil. Although come to think of it, there probably ARE spanish language schools there since brazilians want to learn spanish. but it wouldnt be very good immersion….
