@robmandu He did? I thought it was for the elementary schools?
And, yes, I think he should address all grades. MOST importantly high school when grades have more impact on your future and when kids actually drop out.
Well, around here all schools/teachers had the option of showing it.
It was never mentioned at all to us here in my small school…surprise, surprise. I don’t have a television in my classroom, anyway. But high schoolers need it MORE I would argue.
How could schools opt out of showing a presidential address aimed at students?! I could understand if the schools didn’t want students watching something that parents might sue them for, but a presidential address?!
@jfos because we don’t live in a a dictatorship. Having the president speak to our children typically is seen as a privilage, but a bunch of right wingers put pressure on some schools to not show it, and some principals (sp?) gave in to parental pressures.
It was on all “Teen” & Kid channels for them to see it when they came home for any of those belonging to schools that decided not to show it.
I watched it. Not bad.
A President addressing the topic of education and taking his message directly to the students.
That’s a nice change.
Ive never got to watch any of them address me in school.
Bush’s “Rare is the question asked, is our children learnin’?” hardly counts.
@The_Compassionate_Heretic you made me laugh. I don;t remember seeing them in school either. But, I heard on the TV that many presidents have spoken to school age children, and that the line Obama was forced to take out of his speech, was almost word for word the same as what Bush (I think it was Bush…well, one of the republicans) said to students. The line about writing your president.
