“Kampai!” from Japan
“Salud y pesetas!” from South America (and short for a phrase that means “May you have health and money, and time enough to enjoy them.”
We say “Salut!” (Italian)
L’chayim
Skoal
Prosit
Salud
Santé
Salud, Lechiam and I think Chin Chin.
Prost: Cheers
Zum Wohl: To Good Health
German
You don’t typially hear it but Peace, Shalom, Paz are all nice (all mean peace), if you want your own unique thing.
Here ya go!
Slàinte Mhath! That’s Gaelic.
Thanks guys! I knew I could count on you.
Jews would say “L’Chayim” and clink glasses. It means “bottoms up.” Shalom is a lovely word but would not be used in that context.
Here’s to you. Here’s to me. Forever friends we may be. But if we ever, disagree. Fuck you. Here’s to me.
@gailcalled . . .i’ve always considered myself more of a judy. . .
@gailcalled I didn’t know we were being illiterally or unliterally, or aliterally, I have no idea if any of those are words. It can also be to your health like salud.
@Blondesjon: Have you been at the cooking sherry again? It was JLeslie.
[Mod Says] Stay on target…
How can you mod another mod’s question? Unacceptable.
I like clink. Because that’s what you do, clink.
I just thought of another possibility. Live long and prosper.
Sometimes, in the right group of course, I say:
May all your joys – be true joys
May all your pain be champagne
“Be salamati” : Farsi for “Good health to you”
@Darwin: What part of South America? I never heard that when I was there (and I did my fair share of drinking). We always said “salud” or “chin chin”.
@tiny: (—I am not a mod.)
And bring some plates to break!
Yah shottah mootah betty el kabee. oh wait, that one is an insult, and I spelled it phonetically.
Gan bei! Then you have to drain your glass, no matter how large the drink. That one’s Chinese.
Wait ‘til I show this list (and the one from the site @aprilsimnel linked above) to my husband tomorrow. I think he’ll finally understand the value of Fluther. ;-)
