Should Ronald Reagan's face be on a piece of US currency?

He got Washington National Airport, which to this day pisses me off! If you create a new denomination I am fine with him being on it, but don’t replace Washington, I might go ‘round the bend.

To hell with dead presidents. Should anyone’s likeness be on currency?

I dislike Reagan, but I never understood why Andrew Jackson was on a bill.

As for Reagan, sure, Reagan was chill; I wouldn’t mind if he were on currency, though I’m not sure which one it would be.

They should put Howard Taft on the 1000$ bill, since you can say 20 large and mean 20,000$. heh.

No more presidents, I like the idea of national features instead and not that monstrosity of four faces defacing what was once beautiful mountainside.

I actually would like to see portraits replaced by symbols. I don’t know what symbols off the top of my head, but something uniquely American.

Gosh, no. I’m still reeling because his name is on the UCLA Medical Center. I was a student at UCLA when he was governor of California, and he was extremely unpopular on campus at the time—to put it mildly!

No, he oversaw the creation of the mega deficit while espousing “small government”. Built up our military to absurd levels. he voted against civil rights legislation but claims he wasn’t a racist but, like the South during the 50’s and 60’s, he jumped ship from Democrat to Republican He disapproved of Martin Luther King’s Holiday, pissed on the middle and lower classes and was a horrible example of the highest ideals of American Culture and government and was horribly incompetent but surrounded by an intelligent office and a forgiving and doting public.

Andrew Jackson was actually a strong proponent of the people. He often stood against the Banking Industry and abusive big business agendas:

I remember reading somewhere that putting Reagan on a coin (perhaps the half dollar) was being considered, but was dropped after his family revealed that they were opposed to the idea. Considering that alone, I would be opposed.

Perhaps we could just use his hair?

I was talking to a Canadian truck driver the other day and we were trading friendly jabs when I asked him what sort of country would name a coin the looney?

It would be the perfect thing to honor him, considering his followers now equate your net worth with your social, genetic, spiritual and metaphysical worthiness. Well, at least until the rest of the world has had enough of our fiscal nonsense and finds another reserve currency – at which point we’ll probably be burning them for heat like the Germans did Reichsmarks in the 20’s. So, in other words, go ahead and slap his mug on all the damn bills if it makes you happy.

@SeventhSense – I wouldn’t say he stood for the people when it came to banking and big business, he stood for his childish self. In fact, many of his decisions when it came to the bank of America were motivated by personal politics and left the country with many, many lingering economic issues long after his presidency.

And let’s not forget the Trail of Tears, shall we? When the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional to remove Native Americans from their lands, he told basically took up the attitude of “Yeah? Well shove it up your ass.”

I don’t think Reagan should be on anything at all. In my opinion, he wasn’t a very good president. I never really could wrap my head around the obsession with him.

Good points about the Native Americans and that was certainly a sad time in our nation’s history. We look back from our perspective and it seems cut and dry but really none of our founding fathers would have passed the litmus test of a modern “enlightened” person.

But Jackson clearly saw the end result of the fiat currency fiasco and opposed it vehemently and stepped on a lot of toes. He destroyed the Second Bank and rightly so because he saw “beyond question that this great and powerful institution had been actively engaged in attempting to influence the elections of the public officers by means of its money.” He encouraged state banks and these were “of the people”.

As a result of following the opposite tack we are now slaves to banking and most heinously international and private banking through such shams as the Federal Reserve which are directly tied to private interests and as a result there is no more free republic. We were basically held hostage just months ago by the banks who have demanded that the government clear their ledgers of bad debt by bailing out AIG. Funny that the government has no concerns with clearing the ledgers of the bad debt of it’s populace.. Furthermore the role of moneyed interest in our elective process is inseparable.

I believe we should have 50 separate state banks with strict accountability to their electorate.

Why don’t we just put flowers and cute, cuddly animals on our money? Other countries do it.
