How can I get it to STOP?!? Magnavox TV putting up a "notebook" option that randomly pops up?

Asked by avvooooooo (8880points) September 12th, 2009

I’ve had this TV for several years, but have never had this problem. Due to the number of times I’ve moved since I got it (2005ish), I have no clue where the manual is.

All of a sudden, at random times, this option called “Notebook” keeps opening up. Its blue like the regular menu, but I’ve done nothing in any of the menus or with any of the buttons on my remote to make this happen. That I can figure out… stupid remote It has a couple of little icons on there like you’re supposed to be able to type, but nothing happens when I hit number buttons or anything, I have to hit previous channel to get it to go away. Every so often when the TV is on, it will pop up. Changing the channel with PC gets rid of it, but its stopped being just this weird thing and has become majorly annoying.

Can anyone help me figure out what to do here to stop it from doing this stupid thing?

I’ve had a similar problem like that! My TV will pop up a black rectangle that takes up about half the screen and it will start displaying a bunch of jibberish, or actually sometimes stuff that looks like URLs. The only way to get rid of it is to change the channel. Also, it only happens on some channels. I’ve never been able to figure out what it’s from. The TV is about 7 years old and this only started happening recently.

This, of course, is no help to you, but I didn’t know anyone else had the same problem :P

Do you have cable? I think it may have more to do with the cable company. I’ve got the same thing going on with the black rectangle but only on several channesl not all.
