Do you wear perfume?

What kinds do you wear (i.e., alcohol-based, oil-based, essential oils, etc.)? What “class” of perfume do you typically wear: floral, oriental, woodsy, gourmand, aquatic, etc., if any? What are some of your favorite notes? Least favorite? Do you prefer to be drowning a scent or to just barely smell of it?
If you don’t wear perfume or something scented, why not? Do you have any strong feelings about people who do or do not wear perfume? If you are attracted to a person, are you more or less attracted if they are wearing something “smelly”?

I used to put on axe body spray, but then I realized that it repels women even more.
So I just put on regular deodorant
Perfume is like Zyklon B….
I don’t wear perfume, but I don’t care either way if others do as long as they don’t put on crazy amounts
I very rarely wear perfume – when I do it’s Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea one
I wear some, just a little. The spray kind? I don’t like the ones that smells like thick-flower-fruity shit. Aquatic is my kind. On guys I like the axe smell. It makes me crazy, lol
I’m a BPAL fan. My favorite is Miller vs. the state of California—berries, cream, fig, cognac. Delish! I honestly don’t know what I’ll do when it runs out.
I just barely wear perfume though, it’s more for me than the people around me usually.
I used to wear lavender oil pretty much ever day. Then I moved to Seattle Summers by Down to Earth Oils. It was a personal blend created when I got tired by and wanted more than lavender. From there I eventually made the (almost inevitable) step to BPAL. All of these are oils. Spray perfumes just always feel too strong.
I manufacture my own, from my own axillary glands.
Yes, well, cologne. I’m addicted to smells, at least ones I find favorable. I have been wearing Gucci Rush for over ten years now. The men’s fragrance was discontinued years ago, so I typically have to travel to places like chinatown or search ebay to maintain my stock. It has a very subtle, sandalwood-like scent. I can’t stand ‘strong,’ colognes, barf.
Terre D’Hermes is nice, but for me, nothing tops Gucci Rush.
I used to wear an awesome Cologne called “Nomad” that smelled the way deserts ought to smell.
I found that the other day. It’s on our radiator cover inside a side pocket of my camera bag. You should go retrieve it because it makes you smell pretty. :)
I do. This is my spring/summer fragrance and this is my fall/winter one. I love em both.
And fragrances do attract me. My man wears this one and I love it as well =)
I wear Christian Dior’s J’Adore. It’s a heady smell that lasts all day. I love it.
I used to – if vanilla extract counts, back in college. It was relatively cheap (compared to perfume), smelled good, and guys would always ask if I had been making cookies. :)
Then I worked for more than a decade in retail grocery, where perfumes and other scents were forbidden. They even preferred we wear unscented deodorant, because we had a lot of customers who were chemically-sensitive (or liked to pretend they were, so as to have something to complain about). After that, I just quit wearing them altogether, and have less patience for people who wear a fake-scented chemical-tang-smell in public. Some more natural smells are okay, but the whole “scent” thing is a way of invading my space that I don’t often appreciate.
Besides, I think person-smell isn’t that bad, unless it’s terribly egregious. Give me my sweetie after he’s been working outside any day. Please!

I find just a trace of perfume on a woman to be very alluring, with some smells working better than others. There was one scent that used to drive me crazy, which I can’t recall. It was quite popular amongst teens/young adults around 10 years ago. When I walked by someone on the subway who was wearing it, I always had to pause.
As for my own tastes in colognes, it varies greatly. I used to love Cool Water and Polo Sport. I hate Hugo Boss. I kinda like both Very Sexy For Him and Very Sexy For Him 2. Curve is alright. I remember being partial to Calvin Klein Blue Jeans, though I can’t really recall the scent now. I don’t understand how someone can choose one scent and wear it for life, though it does make for a fine memory for your exes when they smell your brand elsewhere.
I really hate when a guy drenched in cologne comes into the room. I immediately feel like I’m suffocating. Unfortunately for me, the crowds I run with tend to wear a lot of cologne.
yess i do.
It makes me feel cleaner but I don’t go with the drowning scent’s
they’re soo..drowning :)
I myself prefer Curve Kicks it has a rather seductive scent :)
Yes I wear it everyday. I have many different kinds but I always go to “Very Sexy” Victoria’s Secret 99% of the time.
I love when men wear cologne my favorite on a guy is “Black Code” Armani. I have been known to attack men while wearing this :)
@laureth – I read somewhere that many men are highly attracted to the scent of vanilla. Have no idea if this is true.
Laura Biagiotti Roma Uomo AfterShave Splash
Live is designed for the woman who live the life absolutely and never compromise in fun. This luxurious blend of fragrance contains sparkling fruits, sensual flowers, and soft, sexy musk, serene vanilla, and warm woods. Notes include Italian Orange, Sparkling Sicilian Lemon, Pineapple, Violet Accord, Red Currant, Peony, Musk, Vanilla, Sandalwood.
Hmm.. Seriously? I’ve been wearing an aftershave for women the entire year? How is that even possible an aftershave for women.. must be designed to seduce women, well that didn’t work! Anyway it’s great. I put it on after every shave and I just love how sometimes when I go to bed I still smell a whiff of this fruity warm scent. I love how my winterscarf(?) has started to smell like it. I love how it makes me feel like I’m ready and prepared for the rest of the day as I walk out the door.
You asked about the importance of a smell, well to me it always has been important. As a kid I remember sleeping over at my grandparents and my grandfather had this huge old razorblade and every morning he used the same aftershave and every morning he kissed my grandmother on the cheek so she could smell her favorite aftershave. I guess in a way aftershave reminds me a bit of old fashioned love. Another example is in high school there was this girl that I fancied and she had this kind of watermelon cologne, to this day I can’t smell a watermelon without remembering her.
@teh_kvlt_liberal Axe really does put people of doesn’t it? I repel the smell, tell me women what do you think about the Axe deodorants? It reminds me of the boy’s locker room in high school, bah.
I don’t wear perfume. I prefer the scent from my shampoo. I use Aussie and I really like the smell.
Real strong odors give me a headache. If I’m out shopping and someone near me has heavy perfume or cologne on, I’ll try to get away from them as fast as I can.
@markyy Yeah not a fan of Axe probably because every guy in middle school and high school soaked themselves in it and after gym you could smell it pouring out from the guy’s locker room. Yeah very nauseating and powerful scent. That’s not good for anybody
@sjmc1989 You should have tried being stuck in there looking for the last bit of breathable air ;) Especially after I read this story about a kid who died after spraying too much deodorant, I always made sure I was out there asap.
@jonsblond I don’t get a headache from perfume/aftershave, but if I do have a headache it’s like all my senses including smell are heightened and I just have to avoid all smells. That means avoiding the elevator and taking the stairs with a pounding head.
@sjmc1989 AXE IS GROSS. (agreed)
@ markyy kids at my little brother’s middle school actually caused someone to pass out, breath strangely (and be rushed to the hospital) by spraying axe in his face continuously. He didn’t die, but it wasn’t good.
No, please!
@loser No. Just a little deodorant would be nice.
@sjmc1989 Do you like Attitude from Armani? I have that…
I agree with @EmpressPixie, I prefer to wear perfume for me than for other people. I like smelling like cake or doughnuts or chocolate.
Also, BPAL is completely awesome. So is Villainess!
Since marrying Allergy Boy, no, I don’t wear perfume. I used to wear Zen by Shiseido. However, only a little bit. I really don’t want to smell anyone when they’re still 10 feet away. Blech!
Only when I’m cross dressing and that doesn’t happen very often. Don’t tell anyone.
@teh_kvlt_liberal I have only smelled Black code and the one in the white, clearish bottle I think its Aqua something. Im sure if its Armani you smell delicious though :)
My old standby (Di Borghese) was discontinued so I alternate between an amber oil mixed with Bergamot and Orange blossom and an over the counter perfume called Donna Karan Gold. On men I’ve always favored Halston 12 &14 or a dark Gucci spice tone.
I like the idea of perfume, but I often forget to put it on, and recently I’ve been starting to wonder if I have a respiratory allergy to the one I’ve been wearing. Every time I put it on I sneeze, then again…then…. again.
I wear Marc Jacobs, Chanel Chance, or Banana Republic’s Rosewood for special occasions. There’s a fairly cheap body spray called Miso Pretty that I wear for every day stuff. It’s light and youthful, but not too sweet and girly.

Hi, I’m Likeradar. And I like Axe.
My guy wasn’t a cologne guy when we met. He went on some business trip a few years ago and forgot to bring soap. All the corner store had was Axe body wash, so he bought it and brought it home with him. He smelled amazing honestly I was kind of turned on by the smell. He laughed and told me it’s Axe. Embarrassing, I know, but whatever it is about how that crap and his body chemistry mix is awesome.
@Likeradar There are other’s out there like you and I think there is some support groups as well :) Also, cologne smells do vary greatly on different people when it mixes with their natural smells. I just haven’t met a guy that could make Axe smell good…maybe there is one out there for me as well. I can only hope.
@sjmc1989 The support groups would be filled with 12 year old girls dressed head to toe in Hot Topic… and me.
@Likeradar Maybe so but you shouldn’t let that stop you rehabilitation I’m sure they wont judge.
Gucci Rush is my signature fragrance. I also wear an orange blossom cologne made by nuns in France. Aside from those 2, I usually rotate on a 3rd. My next will be Chanel Chance.
I wear them subtly, so only me and people who get close can smell me.
I use Gillette Aftershave Gel, but only a little bit. A 3 oz. bottle lasts me six months or better. That and my Old Spice deodorant is all I need to smell nice.
My favorite scent on a woman is something with a vanilla base. When I am near a woman that wears so much perfume it almost knocks you over, I like to quip to my wife, “She has on so much perfume that when she stands still, she leaves a puddle. I bet when she put it on, the birds were trying to close her windows from the outside.”
I wear a body mist by Calgon called morning glory! That’s as close to perfume as I get! It burns my nose!
@Bluefreedom I let you borrow my lil black dress a week ago, when are you giving it back?
I don’t wear perfume. I smell great naturally!
I never wear it. And most guys who I’ve seen that wear cologne, use it to cover up their filthy lack of a day’s shower. Never trust a waiter with a strong cologne scent. It means he’s filthy and thinks he’s covering it up.
Women, it’s different. They apply the perfume to a clean body, usually. Generally.
I never trust anyone with a super-strong scent though. Whether it’s patchouli oil, or some expensive fragrance… if they lop it on all over their body, it usually means the person is absolutely filthy.
But a light bit of perfume on girl, if the perfume smells good (not vanilla or patchouli.. yuch) is good. One drop or one spray is all a person needs.
@evelyns_pet_zebra. It’s at the dry cleaners and I’ll have it back to you real soon. I had to make sure I got ALL the stains out of it. And don’t ask where they came from either.~
@evelyns_pet_zebra no, no. He specified that is what deserts ought to smell like [in his ideal world.]
and it it’ true! Delicious!!
I pretty much always wear perfume. I just enjoy things that smell nice… I’m a scent person. My every day perfume is Angel by Thierry Mugler. I’m a patchouli and vanilla fan so that one satisfies me. I tend to be attracted to the woodsy or oriental spicy scents moreso than fruity or clean ones.
I wear bath and body’s Brown Sugar & Fig. it’s pretty delicious smelling and my boyfriend loves it. real strong perfumes always gives him headaches but he tells me this one is perfect.
I also just ordered Imari Seduction from avon, it sounds good and the reviews said that it stays on all day so that’s good.
If I do perfume, I like Clinque Happy. Since I rarely use perfume, its more likely that I’ll do body sprays.
I tend to go for vanilla scents though right now I have a Bath and Body Works “Wild Honeysuckle” spray and a little kind of sample bottle of “Enchanted Orchid” spray in my car. I used to do their “Ylang Ylang Myrrh” deal, but it fell and broke… and I realized that I hadn’t worn it in a while and didn’t go back.
No, but sometimes I use waterless hand sanitizer as a form of bathing.
In the past, not anymore, I’ve moved up in the world, from bum, to just poor. But it did work in a pinch, it’s mostly alcohol, so it evaporates fairly clean, helpful for when you are trying to wrangle some semblence of social grace, er, not stink in public because you lost your mind and became a bum. I remember when I was a kid being fascinated by the homeless in town, thinking, “how did they get like that”. Well, learning the hard way really can be tough.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to be judgmental. I haven’t ever been a bum, but I know quite a bit about maintaining a semblance of being the kind of person who doesn’t stink in public. That’s how I became an expert in wet wipes. That brand I linked is the best ;) )
I wear Dolce and Gabanna’s “The One”. I get lots of compliments on it. :) Although, recently I was in Detroit, and after the Electronic Music Festival some guy was walking beside us (1 in the a.m.) whilst my g/f and I were downtown. I thought that he said to me that he liked my perfume. But, instead what he really said was “do you want to buy some pot?”. I stopped and answered “why, thanks”. And, then my g/f quickly dragged me away. Silly Canadian (me).
I hate the smell of patchouli.
I’m a sucker for nice smelling scents and a woman with a nice scent drives me crazy.
I don’t wear perfume in the summer, because I don’t want to attract the bees during the day or the mosquitos at night, although I will if I am going to an indoor party. I like citrus and/or fruity. I also like “blue” fragrances. I typically don’t like heavy florals, but there are some exceptions. Some specifics: Moschino Cheap and Chic, Aqua di Gio, Amarige (still), Chanel Cristalle. I love Angel shower gel, but I do not wear the EDP (my husband LOATHES Angel, so I can only use it when he is away), and DKNY deodorant is very nice.
If someone has on too much perfume it is annoying. I kind of agree with DK that perfume should only be perceivable once you enter someone’s “intimate space.”
I don’t wear perfume but I carry a body spray around with me as well as wearing deodrant everyday. I find body spray’s aren’t as heavy as most perfumes and usually they are cheaper!
I never could wear liquid perfume or cologne – My throat would get tight and I’d sneeze and cough for quite a while. Then I discovered solid scents, which are just wonderful. I use Victoria’s Secret Noir in its solid form, and I love it. It seems subtler than the original, and I can breathe with it on – hooray.
I lean towards floral, citrus, herbal, grass, rain. I don’t wear it often as I know some people who have allergies to fragrances.
