I'm going to be getting a new computer soon and wanted to get a blu-ray player built in, what should I be looking for in a monitor?

I’m not very well-versed in the ways of blu-ray, but I do know that it displays in a certain aspect ratio and that the monitor should match it. I also know that not just any ol’ monitor will do, but I’m not sure what exactly to look for.
I also found this monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236051 would this work? or do you know of a cheaper/better one?

That monitor should work for you. Blu-ray videos are 1080p resolution (1920×1080), so like you said in order to harness the potential, you’ll want a monitor that is capable of 1080p.
You’ll also want to make sure you connect by HDMI to have the system at it’s full potential.
If you don’t know already, most recent LCDs/Plasmas have HDMI connectors so you can also use those as a monitor if you are wanting to watch movies. Again you’ll only see the full Blu-ray quality if you have a 1080p TV.
@se_ven has covered it well. The monitor you have found would play Blu-Ray discs at full resolution, but being only 21.5” you may not see the full effect. It has the appropriate resolution, and HDMI connector and a great contrast ration though.
The most important factor for playing Blu-ray discs on your monitor is that the monitor has to have HDCP, if not some discs (I’m not sure if any do it now) will lower the resolution that they will display (all in the name of preventing piracy). That Asus you picked out does have HDCP. Although, I’d recommend Tiger Direct, they have a better dead pixel policy than Newegg.
what does the bloooray comment have to do with monitor? other than 16:9 aspect ratio?
newegg likes to screw people. the people who like them haven’t yet been screwed
find another vendor
@BBQsomeCows To get the full effect of Blu-Ray, you need to have a 1080p monitor; that is, 1920×1080 resolution.
