Is RAM I buy off ebay reliable?
I’m buying some RAM for an old Mac. It’s pretty expensive on crucial.com and amazon, and pretty cheap on ebay. However, I’ve never heard of the brands on ebay—are they reliable? Does it matter which brand of RAM I get, if all the specs are the same?

Just make sure their feedback is at 100% and they have alot of feedback!
If you buy cheap you buy twice, that’s what my mother always told me anyway. If it’s something you will be using for sometime it’s worth spending enough to give you peace of mind that it will last.
That’s my two penny’s worth!!
Yeah… that’s probably best, @RareDenver. It’s just annoying because old memory is so much more expensive than new.
@finkelitis that’s supply and demand, it’s what our whole economy is based on

It is annoying though, you are right about that.
Definitely never buy no-name RAM on eBay in my experience. I tried the cheap-o RAM route on a 12” Powerbook and ended up with tons of kernel panics, app crashes, and eventually a corrupted hard drive. Took out the RAM and it worked fine. You get what you pay for.
Thanks all. I’m convinced.
RAM is so cheap at reliable outlets, there’s just no reason to take a chance. Check Newegg, check Crucial, I’m sure people can suggest others.
I’ve bought RAM off of eBay, but it was from someone with a 99% rating selling their old Crucial sticks.
