Where, in Brooklyn, NY, is a good place for dinner?
Next weekend I’m going to be joining my husband in Brooklyn, where he’s been working for the past several weeks. It’s our 11th anniversary, and we’ll be going out to dinner. He’s been too busy to check out what the area has to offer, and I’ve never been there. He’s staying/working in Brooklyn Heights (I think that’s what it’s called).
Suggestions? Someplace memorable, with great food and a nice atmosphere, but not too stuffy or fancy. Any other places we should see together? I’ll be there Saturday and Sunday. Thanks!

This is a small bar/restaurant with an excellent changing menu, super quality ingredients and interesting atmosphere.
I’ve never been to Brooklyn (or anywhere near it, really), but this seems like a good website for browsing restaurants. It’s categorized by ranking, price, etc. This link will take you to the Brooklyn area, but on the left in the column you can select Brooklyn Heights if you’d like. Have a nice anniversary!

Can’t go wrong with the “elegant” chinese restaurants in sunset park. I always love going to those places whenever it’s my grandparents’ birthday
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I’m writing them down so my husband can give his opinion not that it matters on where we go. ;)

aprilsimnel is right about Peter Lugar; tis a very well known steakhouse.
Caracas is super good.
Roebling Tea Room has a great ambiance and some good eats.
Diner was in an episode of No Reservations; Mr. Bourdain thoroughly enjoyed it.
I’ve heard that a restaurant called The Grocery in Brooklyn Heights is great. Also, there’s a Tuscan restaurant calle Al Di La that my nephew loves. I believe there’s one calledThe River Cafe in a barge on the river that’s supposed to be very romantic.
The River CafĂ© is on Fulton Landing, which is the pier between the neighborhoods of Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO. It’s too expensive to have such meh food. You’d be better off going to Jack The Horse, which isn’t too far away in the Heights near the promenade. Very cozy, good food. DUMBO has more good restaurants, though, like Superfine, Hecho en DUMBO and Five Front.

One of the best steaks I’ve ever had
@everyone: Thanks so much! I’ve just finished emailing links to my husband. I had a very nice time looking at all of the menus, and can’t decide where I’d rather go at this point. But I am kind of hungry now.
Our favorite near Brooklyn Heights is Po on Smith St.
Smith Street is chock-a-block full of good places to eat!
I’m home now, exhausted and hungover! We spent the night at a hotel on Smith street, so decided to walk around and pick a place for dinner there. Of course, I can’t remember the name of the restaurant maybe those mango martinis had something to do with it but it was French. Tar-something. Excellent, excellent, excellent! We had snails to start with, then my husband had the duck and I had the filet.
After that, we went to this Irish pub where my husband and his crew have made friends with the waitresses. Several beers later, we went back to our hotel but were forced to have some more drinks with the bartender and a couple from Ireland. Three hours later, we finally stumbled up to our room, hence the headache. For breakfast, we walked over to the Happy Days Diner. Good hangover cure, lots of grease and cheese and bad coffee. We had a great time!
Thanks again for all of the suggestions! We’re hoping to spend a longer weekend up there sometime soon and will then be able to try out some other places.
@MissAusten Sounds like a great time. My husband and I ate in Al Di La on Carroll St. on Saturday night and I would highly recommend it if you return there again.
@MissAusten – I know where you are, and you’re very near me right now! Glad you’re enjoying my ‘hood and environs!
Bar Tabac has a really hot (WHEW! ::fans self::) cornet player in the jazz band that plays during brunch. Just sayin’. :D
@breedmitch Yes, Bar Tabac! We were a little unsure at first because it was so packed, but we loved it.
@aprilsimnel I’m back in CT now, but my husband will be in Brooklyn for another couple of weeks. This was the first time I’d been there, and I had a fantastic time! Next time, we’ll try to make it for brunch. ;) Anyway, he’s painting these two buildings on Joralemon (sp?) and Court. You can’t see the murals unless you are in the buildings, but they’re done that way so the tenants have a view of something other than a brick wall. My husband took me up on the roof, and I even got to try out the scaffolding they paint on terrifying. The views are incredible.
There are soooo many good answers to this question! It depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a great slice of pizza, (because after all, isn’t that what Brooklyn is famous for?), then try Spumoni Garden. It’s been there forever and the Sicilian pizza is epic!
