Probably wipe down my belongings with Pledge. I just can’t get enough of that lemon smell and amazing sheen. I would start with my sneakers and move onto my watch. Who can say what would I would do after that? Perhaps I would pick up a book and read it.

If you have a Mac, here’s an idea: First, you’ll need one of those parallel Windows OS programs that’ll let you run windows while OSX is running. Next, run Windows on-screen and put on a few good games that don’t require unusual peripherals, i.e. joysticks or infared guns. Then, have fun. Whenever your boss comes around, just turn on Expose and switch back to that spreadsheet that you were “working” on.

BTW, if you do have plenty of free time, why not tell your boss that? A good job should give you good pay while allowing you to have an even workload that doesn’t overload you and doesn’t give you much free time.

@peedub WTF are you talking about?
@Fred931 Who wants to give up bonus free time?
@Fred931…to work more and not get paid extra? Fair enough. Yes, she might work at a non-profit, but I think if she did there wouldn’t be this issue of free time.
@? Who knows, maybe a little shimmy the shoebox?

I like to waste my time doing the Times crossword. On a Friday that could be hours…

cuando tenia tiempo libre, hacia… Sorry, we’ve just been using this exact scenario to conjugate stuff in Spanish recently, only that specifies what I would do when I actually had free time in the past

If I had more free time in an office environment, I’d probably learn a new language (spoken or programming.) Maybe work on learning some difficult character sets (Katakana or Arabic script.)

Build some drawing skills? Make super tiny extra money on Mechanical Turk. Play Tetris. Actually get around to clearing a tetris on Tetoris [(I played for 40 min and finally made a mistake. So depressing) Although it seems to have died soon after appearing, so I’m not sure which is worse]

I’m with @Fred931 ask them if there’s anything else you can do. My husband has interns and co-ops in his lab all the time. His biggest pet peeve is when they finish an assignment and then sit there doing nothing… like they need to be told to ask for more work when they’re done?

Even what you may think of as ‘mundane’ tasks are many times things that just need to be done. This goes a long way in gaining respect from your employer, and if you aren’t staying there, you’ll get a great reference for future perspective employers.

I spend my free time pacing around the exercise yard.

And if you’re not actually earning money, ask your manager/boss/poobah what you can actually do to earn some money. I would never work for free not because i’m cheap, ok a little, but I just wouldn’t work well or do everything right away, since I wouldn’t be at all encouraged to do it.Of course, this isn’t my take on everything in life; i’ll occasionally do some charity work & such out of spontaneousness.
