Why does my lower abdomen ache at the end of urination?

Asked by le_inferno (6194points) September 23rd, 2009

The past few days, I’ve experienced an aching pain in my lower abdomen every time I finish peeing. It goes away once I relax my bladder. I thought it might be a urinary tract infection, but I don’t exhibit any other symptoms. What other explanations are there?

These could be the beginning symptoms. Drink plenty of water, pee after sex, drink no sugar cranberry juice (Or get the pills and drink more water.)
These could also be beginning symptoms of VD so if there is any chance you should make sure you get checked out.
Since I gave been married 20 years and have been monogamous since the whole AIDS epidemic started, I have not heard as much about gonorrhea and syphilis as I did when I was a teenager. Has the whole “safe sex” thing made those a thing of the past?

I’m a virgin, so VD is out of the question. But yeah, I’m hoping it’s not a UTI.
And no, STDs are still discussed, and gonorrhea and syphilis are definitely included in the STD chart in the health textbooks ;)

UTI or might be a muscle spasm.

a lot of times it’s just abdominal strain. stop jerking off ;). if it persists for more than a week though you should see a doctor.

My brother was complaining about this a couple months ago, and it turned out to be nothing.

@le_inferno: I’ve actually been noticing the same thing for the last 3 weeks or so! (And I was kind of freaked out, too!)

But for me it started right after abdominal surgery, so reading your post @ABoyNamedBoobs03 comforts me that it’s probably just that my abdominal muscles are strained, and probably (hopefully?) they didn’t do anything scary to me while I was asleep that would cause it.

I’m assuming you are a younger person, so you wouldn’t be susceptible to the old age afflictions of a man my age. I’d see a doctor just to be sure.

If it gets worse or doesn’t get better over the next few days see a doctor. Could be a UTI, could be a muscle strain, could even be a hernia. It could also be a kidney stone of a sort that forms further along the urinary tract, as described here:

“Vesical calculus: The pain is often severe at the end of urination. Pain occurs in lower abdomen and may radiate to the perineum (anal region). Other symptoms are difficulty in starting urination and hematuria at the end of urination, urgent and frequent micturition.”

If you start to exhibit symptoms even when you aren’t going to the bathroom, it could be something like endometriosis, too. But definitely get checked out and let us all know you’re okay.
