I’m looking for help on a website I have been working on for a small soda distributing company out of Charlotte NC. I have a basic understanding of websites but would like to learn more about how to optimize the traffic specifically for those that like Old Time Sodas. Thank you for any help or insight you can bring to this subject. I’m not a developer just a designer. Thanks

Hey there, welcome to Fluther.
You have a perfectly valid question to ask the collective. However, in my opinion there’s one problem: it doesn’t sound like it’s coming from an individual. It feels so impersonal and so… robotic. Almost as if you’ll scurry off into the unknown once you get what you came for. Flutherites don’t generally take to such questions very well because Fluther’s a community of people who want to help other people, not impersonal companies.
So a tip. Drop the third-person pronouns. Make us know more of you first (eg I’m a 30 year-old manager in charge of a company which bla bla blas), then tell us of your problem (eg now I’m very proud of my company and have seen it grow over the past two years but recently, I’ve noticed that it’s been experiencing a drop in visitors. And that means a drop in customers). Then request for your help (eg So I was wondering if anyone from Fluther could help me in increasing the traffic to this site). And add any additional details (Specifically, I was looking at something more in the way of SEO (you may wanna explain what SEO is for us heathens) hints and tips.).
After that you could provide a link to your site with more details (eg my company’s website is www.pipelinebransusa.com and you could all take a look at it if you want. Any advice would be appreciated).
Flutherites like to answer people @Doc_Zola. Once you refer to yourself as ‘we’, I think that the vast majority of us will feel turned off. I know I did when I saw the ‘we’ in the question. I came in here to tell you how to add to this community.
If I were you. I’d probably change my question to something like “Advice on increasing internet traffic to a website please?”.
Ask the Fluther mods whether they’ll give you another chance with this question. If you edit it, I strongly believe that you’ll see an increase in the quantity and quality of your answers.
Can one edit their postings or questions here? I’m having trouble seeing the ( edit ) button near my question. Thank you for your post and we are a 2 man show not an impersonal company by any means. Just bad writing on my part and its my first post. I’m open to suggestions as to how to be a better writer online so thank you for the feedback. Now about that edit button? -
Hmmm… I don’t really know, I know that it often dissappears as a questions gets answers. You could try My Account—>Questions of mine that need editing—->ask a moderator
Im sure there is a better way I just dont know it :/
But in regards to your audience, you need to know what kind of keywords your target audience will be using in search engines.
then you need to optimize your site so that it performs well in searches containing those keywords.
For starters anyways. :D
Much better. =)
Now I just hope that more people will participate. It’s rare that we get such a mega-influx of people coming in. I certainly hope that within 24 hours there’ll be more answers here. You made an effort in changing your question to one which fits Fluther. That’s good enough in my book. =)
I’ve been increasing traffic to my site by posting Facebook updates and started a Facebook fan page. Friends of friends of friends of friends are now going to it.
Since it’s a product, I would approach some of the pop culture sites and see if they would feature it, write about it, give you discount on advertising it, etc.
Yes I will look further into using Facebook advertising in that I read something that the drill down specifics are getting better for small business. I used it once for 3 days and saw decent traffic but its all about how much you spend. Even Google adwords wont activate until you give them billing information.
@Doc_Zola many users use ad blocking software which will make your facbook advertising useless.
Good SEO from the ground up is money better spent imho
