Looking for unusal recipes using raspberries and no sugar?

Asked by 6rant6 (13705points) September 25th, 2009

I would like to find some recipes (or just simple delicious uses) for raspberries that don’t require dairy, meat, or sugar. Standard ideas like salads, tarts, and smoothies I already have covered.

Have you tried making fruit leather with raspberries? You can substitute honey for sugar, and they should turn out fine. Also known as fruit roll-ups.

Not exactly a recipe, but a friend of ours used locally grown raspberries (possibly black) and peaches to make a delicious, delicious (and frighteningly simple) desert.
She poached some peaches in a little white wine, and then added them to the (defrosted, as they had been frozen) raspberries. Because the berries had been frozen, many of them had burst, so the warm peach juice mixed/wine with raspberry juice creating a natural sauce. Everything being just slightly warm and fresh and natural was SUPER delicious.

@6rant6 Do you not want sugar because it isn’t too healthy, or because a lot of it isn’t vegan? Knowing will help me find better recipes.

I am collecting healthy recipes, so sugar is pretty much prohibited.

Have to admin when I had raspberries on my oatmeal this morning I was jonzing for some brown sugar.

@6rant6 Ah, okay. I’ll do my best to find some recipes for you. My sister is vegan, so she might have some pretty good ideas. I’ll find out and then get back to you. :)

Just a thought. You can always substitute sugar with a natural sweetener like agave. Some people use honey but i’ve heard that you can’t bake honey. Agave is safe to bake and is much healthier than sugar or artificial sweeteners.

@RedPowerLady Good idea. I also happen to think that agave tastes a lot better than honey. Great suggestion. :)

I bake with honey all the time. It isn’t vegan though, is it?

@DrasticDreamer Thank You. I also agree on the taste preference. Actually I don’t like honey, bleck.

The miracle recipe for potato salad.

Boil organic red potatoes with skins and then cube into bowl.
Add capers and chopped parsley.

Dressing; EVOO, red wine vinegar, some smooshed raspberries (can blend if you wish or use prepared raspberry vinegar) and Dijon mustard to taste.

Underdress and garnish with fresh raspberries. I don’t bother with either salt or pepper.

@gailcalled you beat me to it. I blend them in my Italian Dressing and my homemade mustard
