Three steps:
1. Be Awesome
2. Network
3. Be Awesome
Look up an Angel Investor network in your area. See if there is a business networking organization in your area. Contact a college in your area with an Entrepreneur program or good business program, and see if how you might get connected there.
Small Business Bureau…..they’ll have lots of resources. But beware of letting them, or any economic development people or ANYONE get too involved in your business. They’re book smart, but most of them have no IDEA what it really takes to run a business. The ones I dealt with when I had my business had the same misconception that most other people have—if you own your own business you have more money than you know what to do with (Yeah, right) and they’re liable to give you advice based on that faulty premises.
Attend as many business expo’s as you can, and get to know the people who operate the booths.
There’s some sort of program in which retired businesspeople volunteer to mentor young up-and-comers. I’ve heard ads for it on the radio, seeking volunteers, but I’ve forgotten what it’s called.
That’s what I meant…the SBA. Small Business Administration. Good place to start, but trust your own judgement!

2. demos are better than plans
3. ask them if they would be interested in helping develop the raw awesomeness that is you
