If your dog is used to dry food, I really like EVO since it has no grain at all. I think the link may have a list of ingredients. I don’t buy all the hyperbole, but I have gone over the formulation with some very knowledgeable assistance, and it ranks very very high for dry food.
I am 65, I did not change my diet at a specific age and don’t intend to unless some specific food should begin to irritate my stomach. I don’t think you need to change it just because of age unless maybe what you are feeding is very high in protein. It is said that older dogs don’t need the high protein. But again my dogs eat a lot of protein with some rice and veg, so who knows.
Why do you want to change his diet, is he having trouble chewing? I wouldn’t change it unless there was a reason to do so. Often a change in diet can precipitate digestive upset, so if you do change, do it very gradually.
My oldies are still eating raw and chewing bones, keeps their teeth in good shape and they are still going strong at 12.
All our dogs, young and old are all on Royal Canin dry food because, so far touch wood none of the dogs have ever had a problem with it. Obviously I add suppliments for the dogs that need them ie: for joints etc but other than that it’s pretty basic. I agree with @rooeytoo if you don’t need to change it then don’t feel you have to.
It’s called Canidae and supposedly has only human grade usda meat ingredients and also no glutens which rules out most fillers. Once I switched my dog to this food, he dropped weight, gained energy and his hair got prettier after a few months. It costs me about a dollar extra a bag which seems worth it.
