Is it possible to get rid of your bodies self preservation mechanism?
Is it possible to get rid of your bodies self preservation mechanism? Like, is it possible to train your mind to not fear pain, or negative recourse?

only if you learn the ways of the ninja.
sorry if i dont laugh… im not in the best of moods
@filmfann I guess life does have a purpose after all.
Soldiers will fall on a grenade to save other soldiers around them. Not sure if that fully qualifies.
@klbaxcheza: How many bodies are you allotting to each of us? I would hope that my body’s self-preservation mechanism remains intact always. (And what does negative recourse mean?)
I would throw myself under a train for my kids.
I have seen a lot of people overcome a self preservation mechanism. Usually after the third or fourth shot of tequila or less if it is everclear.
Yes. This is, however, an extraordinary example.
For some people, simple depression does the trick.
@laureth wow, now that is just weird. Thanks for the link, though, it led to some other strange traditions, as well.
…fortunately, evolution, after ~ 2 billion years, has found many ways to make your requests difficult for any of us to achieve, casually or noninstinctually.
I hope you realize that there are professional paths you must take… whether they be ‘soft’ or ‘hard’..... ‘spiritual’ or ‘scientific’ .......... This website is not a substitute or alternative to those ‘paths’ !
@virtualist Sorry if i wasnt clear. Im not asking for a crash course…
@gailcalled this body isnt who i am, nor who i want to be. My true self is much more, and at the same time, much less. I feel that fearing pain will only prevent me from being who i truly am.
@filmfann thats either fake or somebody on LSD.
People do it every day. They try very hard to convince themselves they aren’t acting self destructive yet they still do it.
And they get very angry when you tell them anything that counters what they think.
Did you just watch The Happening, by any chance?
@poofandmook Wow, that was a bad movie, but not so bad that I would kill myself…
@filmfann: I think it would’ve been a vast improvement just to not have Mark Wahlberg, who I usually like, in that role. He was terribly cheesy. But that was the whole point to the movie, right? The self-preservation switch gets turned off?
gets reversed*
I dont want to Want to kill myself, i just want to never worry about getting hurt or causing pain, embarrassment, or getting in trouble.
Just because I’m curious, why do want to avoid fear for pain, embarrassment, or getting in trouble?
ive yet to meet someone who hasnt treated me like shit, but i have yet to really do the same to anyone else. Im tired of letting myself get pushed around.
I have no problems fighting people, and i hardly ever lose. But ive never been able to bring myself to hit the people that i really feel deserve a savage beating.
Well that sucks, but if you hardly lose then you have to have some understanding of fighting and taking pain. Are you a fairly fit or buff individual?
@kibaxcheza : Are you saying that everyone you come into contact with treats you badly? That is not a good thing; perhaps you have some issues yourself to deal with. A savage beating never furthered a relationship, at least in my circle of friends
And a body is really necessary to house the true self, the soul, the personality, whatever you wish to call it.
I know how to fight very well, I’m only moderately strong, it keeps me from really hurting people….
@gailcalled Yes, i am. My own mother has attempted to choke me to death on 3 different occasions. Im not looking for furthering relationships anymore. Im looking to be taken seriously. In the words of Machiavelli “its better to be feared than loved”
@kibaxcheza In regards to Machiavelli’s edict, I’d much prefer to invoke love than fear from others. I’m sure that fear of you would indeed lead to others taking you seriously but it is likely that they would seriously avoid you I think. Is that what you want? I would suggest that by invoking fear you are more likely to achieve the opposite of what you want, which I assume is friendship although perhaps I am quite wrong?
@kibaxcheza I don’t know how I missed reading your statement ”I’m not looking for furthering relationships anymore”.... All I can say is that it sounds like a very sad and lonely place to be.
its better than the place i am now.
and i know this sounds like “Oh woh is me, pity me, i dont have i girlfriend, and i broke my phone, and my friend stole my other friend from me, FML”. But i assure you, i dont want pity, and its much more than high school bullshit.
I just want my fight or flight response to constantly stay at fight.
@kibaxcheza Sometimes flying is a great way of preserving oneself. It should not be viewed as a weakness or it could be seen as that if was the only way one dealt with perceived danger
have you considered speaking with someone you trust, sometimes a new perspective is a great place to start
Yes. Psychoactive drugs can do this.
@Adagio have no one left to trust. And i cant really fly, in the sense of leaving. That would require an array of transfers. As for on a situational basis, that would totally kill the point of what im trying to do….
@mattbrowne In my career field i need to have the ability to buy and own firearms. Would such drugs jeopardize that?
Well it looks like it’s time to become a pro cage fighter, train to become a ninja, and seccesfully assinate a forien leader of power.
@trogdor_87 and maybe take some evening english classes.
@kibaxcheza – Depends on the drug. I wouldn’t recommend those drugs I was talking about. I was just answering the “is it possible” part.
