I need help with my TV ? !

Asked by sandystrachan (4417points) September 27th, 2009

My TV is an old one but recently the image has started to slant , this slant is on the right side . To put it into words it is tho someone has attached a weight to the bottom left corner , that has dragged the side down it is a gradual slant max of 1.5cm . I know i have to buy a new TV ( that’s planned for next year ) i was just wondering if anything could be done now incase it gets worse , apart from this the TV is still in great condition and you only really notice it when doing certain things . What could case such a thing to happen to the screen , i know if you get magnets close to a screen the colour bleeds but what would make it drop down / slant ?

You either have a slightly warped cabinet or screen assembly (no cheap or easy way to fix), a shifted main mirror (take off screen and re-seat mirror), a shifted or not fully seated light engine (remove rear cover and screw that puppy down or shim until picture is squared-up), or a shifted dmd (no cheap or easy way to fix).

If your tv is a genuine tube television, the voltages inside are extremely high and if you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t open the cabinet.

Potentially deadly currents even remain after unplugging the unit!

There are no mirrors in these types of tv that can be adjusted. Sometimes you may tune the tube through rotating some adjusters with a screwdriver. Most times these types of failures in cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions are just a tell tale indication of their oncoming demise.
