Where to go? anywhere.
What to do? Get lei’d!
Lahaina is my favorite city in Maui. It’s a bit touristy, but more hippy and less bourgeois than the resort areas. Paia is much less crowded, and has small stores and restaurants, including a smoothie place that has the best pineapple coconut smoothie on the planet. Paia is on the way to the Road to Hana—the road through paradise.
@tinyfaery when I was in Maui, when I was seven years old my family went on the road to Hana and it was absolutely beautiful. I definitely recommend it.
Short trip to Elite Island
(that is if you are a MSF)
Take a submarine tour! I remember going on one years back, and then buying a T-shirt afterwards. They came in little shrink-wrapped packages.
The aquarium is wonderful. For a Flutherite, the jellyfish tubes are not to be missed. I love to snorkel there. For the relatively inexperienced Olawalu is very nice, shallow quite a ways out and with a gentle surge.
You can also take a boat ride to snorkel the old volcano rim at Molokini.
If you like stargazing at all, it is fabulous at Maui. the Hyatt Recency has a roof program with a resident astronomer and a six inch telecsope. There is a romantic late-night viewing with champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries that is very fun.
Nakelele Point on northern Maui has an amazing blowhole of the same name.
Shopping and eating in the old whaling town of Lahaina is great fun.
If you are there during the season of the humpbacks wintering, go out on a Pacific Whale Foundation whale watch.
There is so much more that you’ll have to go back again! Have a great trip. Even writing this makes me want to go back.
go to hana. you can have really good conversation in the car on the way, take lots of time to take photographs, the real thing to do is spend the night there, the hana maui hotel is great, peaceful, have some drinks in the bar there and eat some surfing goat cheese on raisen bread! there’s a black sand beach on the way, and you can snorkle the litttle bay in hana.
smile…because your in Maui and the rest of us are jealous
