How would Leopard run on a 12" Powerbook G4?
Many people think Leopard is faster than Tiger but I’ve noticed it is a bit slower on my Intel iMac (not the aluminum one) and I was wondering if anyone has installed and been able to use Leopard at a respectable speed with a G4 based Mac or Powerbook?
I was thinking of using some Terminal commands to kill things like the 3D dock and the translucent menu bar, would that increase the speed at all?

Leopard runs just fine on my wife’s PowerBook G4, no mucking in the Terminal necessary.
I know my brother has downgraded his 15-inch Powerbook G4 back to Tiger, mostly because of speed issues. I’ve got a 12” PB G4, so I’d be interested to hear if anyone else has upgraded successfully.
It runs great on my 1 Ghz 12” iBook G4 and on my 1.25 Ghz eMac. I haven’t really noticed a speed difference either direction. Getting rid of the fancy graphics might give you a bit more “snappiness” but I wouldn’t bother.
My 867 MHz Powerbook runs it just fine – the translucent menu bar and 3D dock don’t matter. Mail is sluggish, but that’s the only app I’ve noticed that performs worse in Leopard than Tiger.
(I wasn’t going to upgrade, but then my hard drive died and I needed install disks, and I’d been planning on buying it for the Mac mini, so this just delayed the Mini upgrade until I can find the Powerbook’s Tiger disks.)
Runs good on mine. 867 mhz, 1gb ram. No more sluggish than Tiger, faster in a few places. CS3 apps work great.
I am excited to hear you all say that as someone just gave me a G4 Power book.
I am now Giddy!
Max out your RAM if you haven’t already.
Install the maximum amount of RAM possible in your Powerbook (you should do this in your iMac too). RAM is fairly cheap in the scheme of things, and it’s worth it for the major increase in performance. Check out http://www.crucial.com/ for memory. Leopard will run just fine.
