Where should I get my gift card made out to?
There is a competition at work for who can sell the most HP printers. Right now, I’m pretty much a shoe in for taking first place, but there are gift cards for 1st through 3rd.
1st = $500
2nd = $300
3rd = $200
From what my HP rep tells us, we sell the 3rd most HP volume out of any store in the entire country. So they are rewarding us by giving out 1,000 dollars in gift card to any store we choose.
I kind of need new clothes, and shoes, so I was thinking Macy’s…but I’m looking to generate some other ideas for what you might get the gift card to.
I’m not sure if I can get multiple gift cards yet or not, but I don’t see why not, maybe 300 to macy’s and 200 to some other place.
Help me spend my money!!

Amazon or eBay. I might pick iTunes, too, if I didn’t already get my media another way.
Edit – for clothes, you can always just find the brands you want in your size at the store, and then order them for less money online. So even if you go with Macy’s or Kohls or something like that, it might be a good idea to keep their online store options in mind.
Double Edit – Pick the Apple store! That would be awesome, to have a $500 gift card to there.
I’d go with Amazon or Target because you can get just about anything from either of them.
Can you get a VISA gift card?
Get a gift card for a liquor store! 1000$ worth of booze sounds amazing!
Not to mention shots for all your favourite Jellies wink wink
@PandoraBoxx I thought it said Rabies R Us. (:
Dillard’s is also amazing. (:
A lot of shopping malls offer gift cards that you can use in any stores located within the mall.
That way you wouldn’t have to spend it all in one place and you don’t have a specific amount you need to use up in a certain store.
I second @Facade‘s suggestion. If at all possible get it as a Visa card. Then you can spend it wherever you like, including for gas or groceries if need be.
I think for some reason they aren’t doing the visa card…but I’ll have to double check on it.
I do like the Amazon idea, though I’m sometimes a bit hesitant to buy anything other than books there.
Babies R Us was a good suggestion, thanks pandoraboxx.
keep em coming, I like em so far, but I think I’d go for the Visa card if they allow it. We’ll see.
bed bath and beyond, and you can pimp out your apartment.
If you’re able to divy up the $ def pick a restaurant you frequent for the lessor amount. As the busy holiday season approaches, it will be a perk to have a free pass to eat out with friends/family.
Might I suggest Circuit City or Sharper Image?
Or perhaps Eddie Bauer or Mervyn’s.
Maybe you could consider donating it to a charity, since it’s “free” money anyway. Would they make it out to the Red Cross or some?
I tend to be a really practical person…so here are my ideas…
1.southwest.com-amazing
2.cheveron gas
3.grocery store
4.ikea
5.apple/iTunes (that’s a lotta money though…)
6.amazon.com
7.wal-mart -even though I hate them
8.urban outfitters
I would choose SWA in a heart beat!
Whole Foods. Just imagine, a full week five day’s worth of gourmet European cheese, $10 obscure microbrews, kava bean lip balm, and $25 organic curry-lentil-misoyaki-black cod salads from the $9-a-pound buffet.
On that note, you had better come in first.
Ah hell, they just sent an email out saying the gift cards will only be to my store…makes me sad because I have enough electronics in my apartment. I suppose I can just save it for buying gifts for this holiday season then.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys!
Well, I won the competition. I’ve decided to get myself a few things… a refurbished xbox 360, bose companion 3 speakers, a new 500gb hard drive for my macbook, and maybe a game or two for the xbox….should be a fun time!
Make it easy and just get a general Visa Checkcard – this way people can buy whatever they want
