The Orgasmic Church of Evelyn comes to mind.
I once met two girls who belonged to a very small minority group which lives in Turkey but speaks Aramaic (the same language as Jesus). Their religion is a form of early Christianity, without the tradition of mainstream Christian dogmas, and their language somewhat resembles Hebrew and Arabic. I don’t speak any Hebrew, but I speak some Arabic and could recognise several words. There are only 200 of them left, most of which moved to Belgium out of fear of persecution by the Turks.
There is (or was) the Ancient Order of Froth Blowers and various cabals of the Fraternal Order of Wizardry, as well as the Eucleian Society (as Wikipedia says: “It is not clear what the Society engages in today due to its strict policy of privacy.”), the Flat Hat Club, the Seven Society, and Order of the Bull’s Blood.
There is also The Golf Collector’s Society, The Pencil Eraser Collecting Society of Eastern Europe, The Square Root Society of Omaha, Nebraska, and The Australian Antique Bottle Collecting Society.
i’m thinking about starting a “society” for young women, ages 18–24.
@Sarcasm We aren’t all like that. Just letting you know there are a few young women out there with some substance.
Both weird and obscure… the french society.
@eponymoushipster Thank you just let me know when and where to show up for meetings :)
@YARNLADY not so obscure, but good ones nontheless
Two that I remember from an old Cracked.com article about inappropriate sexual gatherings.
(I guess these are not safe for work, ‘cause they are pretty weird.)
Furrs Fur Christ, an organization for people who are both furries (people with a strong desire to be animals or animal-like, and who are typically attracted to other such anthropomorphic-people) and also god-fearing Christians.
Boytaur.net, a safe space for men who are sexually attracted to other men as long as those other men have multiple sets of limbs (like Centaurs, who have six appendages), you know, like, two arms, and four legs. And apparently the “wristfooted” ones are really hot.
how has no one said NAMBLA?
The Nation of Gods and Earths, a black secret society to which many current rappers often make reference, either for shits and giggles, or because they actually are secretly using rap as a way to mass-ensorcel.
@Beta_Orionis i hope you mean North American Marlon Brando Lookalikes of America, or forgot to put a tilde…
Thank you all for your responses! Very helpful. Hopefully I’ll get off my ass and make this whole ISOS thing now.
