What do people in the U.K. think of the U.S.
Any flutherites want to weigh in on this one? What do you think about the Revolutionary War? Is there still any bad blood? What about the current state of our nation?

I like to think the English wanted to separate themselves from George III just as much as the Colonists did. He was a menace, always stripping down and harassing people. They just didn’t have such an easy way out.
They probably don’t think much about the US’ revolutionary war. I saw/heard a Briton say they don’t really cover the subject in their schools.
Ok, but first you answer this. What do people in the US have for breakfast?
Well im British and to be honest, when im vacation – the americans are nice and friendly, but the steriotype over here for americans are – “oh you fat americans, go eat some mcdonalds”.
Which really I think really is rather pathetic as if im right – USA and England are at war together, but then again americans have steriotypes for us dont they?
@se_ven, you are correct, we dont learn hardly anything about the US revolutionary war – i’d say the only thing we learn about to do with USA is the slave trade.
Englishman here. As far as I am aware no one really gives a flying funk about the American Revolution here and there certainly isn’t any ‘Bad Blood’. If there was there would have to be ‘Bad Blood’ about all the other territories that were once part of the British Empire (about two thirds of the world I think)
I think most people look pretty favourably upon America, there may be a bit of stereotype that most Americans don’t really understand what goes on outside their own borders all that well but apart from that I would say we are pretty cool with each other, we share most of our values and beliefs, have very aligned cultures and share a common language. We seem to enjoy each others movies and music.
I think Bush might have damaged you a little in the average Brits eyes, but not much more than Blair damaged us.
@zachs94 There isn’t much for stereotypes here in the US regarding Britons. Mostly people here just think “They drink tea, have bad teeth, and are much too polite”.
Personally, I look upon the U.S the way any proud parent would at their enormous, occasionally wayward but hugely promising child. I suspect great things from this particular descendant for the greater community of the earth, once its overinflated sense of self importance is checked somewhat and a more respectful and considerate attitude is adopted towards other, longer established, and worthwhile cultures. As for its positive contribution to the global pot up to now, I would say ‘awesome’ :- Rock & Roll, Jazz, Country, Hollywood (The good stuff), Breathtaking automobile designs, the streamlining of the language, Denim, Skyscrapers, Great tv (Addams Family, Beverley Hillbillies, The Munsters, Sgt. Bilko, Roots, Starsky and Hutch, Hill Street Blues, Lost, The Sarah Connors Chronicles) to name but a few.
On the whole, you’re doing good kid. :-)
@lloydbird man, you just named some of the worst tv shows I can think of ;P.

I liked Hill Street Blues.
As an American who has spent quite a bit of time in Britain, I have to say that the Brits I know seem to like Americans a lot, though I have never met one who had good words to say about George W. Bush. Many of them seem to regard us as long-lost family. We don’t always see eye to eye, but we always matter to each other.
I have always found the British cordial, friendly, and interested in our culture and history. Of course, I and my American friends are also keenly interested in theirs.
watch ‘does europe hate us?’ on the discovery channel. we watched it in comparative government, and it was pretty interesting.
i think that american are cool
