Can mackerel fillets in tin be eaten directly ?

Asked by mea05key (1822points) October 2nd, 2009

I usually tend to heat the sardine or in this case mackeral fillets before eating. Is it safe to eat directly from the tin?

Yes, it is safe. They are thoroughly cooked before going into the tin, or sometimes actually while they are in the tin, depending on how the production line is set up.

Cold sardine sandwiches can be quite yummy – bread, mayo, and sardines right from the tin.
