Which helpful behavior gives you the most warm fuzzies?

Asked by BenByTheWay (147points) October 4th, 2009

People often say “help others – it will make you feel good”.

What type of help that you have given others has made you feel the best in terms of “warm fuzzy feeling”?

There is nothing like the look of gratitude on a homeless and/or hungry person’s face when you dish them something to eat. Nothing.

Sharing advice on fluther ;) To be honest I don’t really get that fuzzy feeling when helping others. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t try, it’s just usually not that satisfying to me as I expect it to be. I guess it’s a feeling you get from changing someone’s life, and I’m not narcissistic enough to take that honor.

I’m with @lefteh here.

Also, helping a woman carry her stroller up the subway stairs. That’s always nice.

I regularly spent several hours a week with a woman who can’t go outside when the sun is up. We are now playing 4-hand piano. She doesn’t whine, bitch or moan about her lot, she is interested in my life and we laugh a lot.

Aside from volunteer activities, in my daily life I’d say it’s helping out an elderly person. Whether it be holding a door, reaching something on a high shelf, or just chatting pleasantly in the grocery store, it always gives me a lift. I have a feeling that some of them feel invisible, and they seem so appreciative just to be noticed.

The elderly people at the nursing home just loved when I’d come in for volunteering. They have so little company. They would really love just anyone spending time with them.

Helping children with special needs. Both my parents work witth those with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities, and there is nothing in the world like working with these people, even when they grab their penises on the playground or try to bite you when you tell them it’s time to go to the bathroom, I still love it.

Helping others, is what makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I once went out, and bought clothes for a family of five, who couldn’t afford to, and I helped support them for 3 months while they got everything situated. Just knowing that I helped make a major difference, in somebody’s like, make me feel good.

Just smiling at people makes me feel good. Look people right square in the eye and give them a genuine smile. (genuine being the operative word) It can really make somone’s day. Also, listening to people like what they have to say is the most important thing in the present moment can make them (and you) feel good.
