What's that song that will make you stay in your vehicle even if you are late?
you don’t even have to be late. you could be just pulling into a prime parking space at the mall or grocery store, just about to turn off the radio and the DJ plays “that song!”
pulling into your garage. your driveway. “steal that wine” by “war” was my pause today as i was about to get out the truck.
the song you haven’t heard in years! the song you love! the song on a CD you have yet to buy so you can listen to it all you want! but , oh wow, they are playing “that song” in your car and you just have to hear it all the way through, even if it stops time…

“Wasted” by Gucci Mane that is my jam you gotta hear it
Depends who I’m with. “Let’s Get it On?”~
By the way, it’s Spill the Wine by War.
Mine would be Bodhisattva by Steely Dan.
“Don’t stop believing” by Journey
@filmfann yup, it is. my bad. a few too many beers tonight.
love steely dan too, “aja” for sure
Oblivion
It’s also the song for which I crank up the radio to 11. (My radio doesn’t actually have numerical values for volume, but you get the point)
my whole play-list. (:
The Arcade Fire- wake up.
anything by isley brothers, todd rundgren, steely dan or crosby stills and nash or the dooby brothers, chicago or phil collins.
None (I unplug my iPod and take it with me).
See ya….Gary/wtf
tho there is a fine list of groups/songs, above
I don’t listen to music on the car radio – I use an iPod for that. My radio is always turned to talk shows, news or current affairs. There are some songs on my play list that will make me pause until they end – it depends on my mood and how long since the last time I listened to it. This morning I waited for the Beach Boys “Kokomo” to end. I hadn’t heard it for some time and it is an old favourite (for an old surfer).
“Light My Fire” the Doors
@janbb yup, and “riding on the storm!”
@cyndihugs….Thanks for the suggestion. Just started Funeral with Neon Bible up next….love The Arcade Fire. See ya….Gary/wtf
“Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)” by Billy Joel. I love the way the rhythm and lyrics mesh together so well.
Lyin’ Eyes by the Eagles. I’ve always loved that song. It tells a sad story.
“On Top” by The Killers is my favorite one right now, and it made me late to class one day.
Bohemian Rhapsody! American Pie! Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler!
Maggie May – Rod Stewart
Satisfaction – Rolling Stones
Glory Days – Bruce Springsteen
Thunder Road – Bruce Springsteen
I rarely stay to listen (always in a hurry, got things to do) to commercial radio in my truck, but when I do, it is usually something I haven’t heard in a long time. Today it was Feelin’ Alright by Joe Cocker.
@laureth I love “Total Eclipse of the Heart”; your other choices are neat too.
@janbb Satisfaction lurve for Satisfaction.
Magic Man – that song makes a very bad day good sometimes
“you start me up” by the rolling stones
If I’m in the mood, I’ll stay in the bus listening to the “Ziggy Stardust” or “OK Computer” album
Anything by the Austin Lounge Lizards, and most of the pieces on this list. And Carmina Burana and Delibes Sylvia.
Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie or for that matter pretty much every death cab song.
I’m so surprised no one said this song, The original band eludes my memory, but this version I’d stay in my car for, lol.
too many… I’m late for class a lot….
On Thanksgiving a couple years ago, I was driving to my friend’s house for dinner when the radio station in town started playing Alice’s Restaurant Massacree by Arlo Guthrie. Unfortunately, it only takes 5 minutes to get to her house. The song is nearly 19. She wanted to know why I was so late.
And I had a Thanksgiving dinner that couldn’t be beat, went to sleep and didn’t get up until the next morning.
I haven’t heard a good re-played song on FM radio in over a decade. Except classic rock, but I’ve heard those songs so many times I don’t need to let them delay me any more.
I’ve heard a few good songs played once each, when I drive though towns with college stations. Some good enough that I won’t leave the car. Not sure what those songs are.
Now, if I had Sirius Radio.. I’m sure there’d be a list of songs.
@Les: I was doing a long swim in Lake Washington a couple weeks ago. I got hollered at from the boat cops on a bullhorn for swimming further from shore than the 50 ft. limit. I thought if they ticketed or arrested me I’d end up on the “group W bench” someday for swimming outside of the lines. Cheers!
I’d stay and listen to several songs. Anything by Hendrix would always get me. Other than that many many older songs I hadn’t heard in a long while.
Adore U by Prince. Hadn’t heard the song in a while and when the song came on I was just about to step out of the car in the middle of a rain storm. It was almost perfect. All I needed was my man and maybe a few candles…would have set it off! maybe not the candles LOL
Will stay till the last note fades out:
Led Zeppelin – D’Yer Mak’er, All of My Love, Tangerine, Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, Ramble On, Fool in the Rain
Radiohead – Street Spirit, Just, My Iron Lung, Paranoid Android, Last Flowers to the Hospital, Bangers and Mash, Electioneering, The National Anthem, Go to Sleep, Myxomatosis, A Wolf at the Door
@cyndyh…I agree….anything Hendrix causes and deserves pause…“castles made of sand, fall in the sea, eventually.”
See ya…Gary/wtf
@cyndyh….that did it….Axis goes on immediately! Have a nice evening. See ya….Gary/wtf
Renegade by Styx, and the fourth and fifth movements of Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.
the battle of new orleans by johnny horton, haha :)
also, before i took a trip to san francisco this summer, whenever Lights by Journey would come on, i would get sooo excited and i could never turn it off. i’d listen to it multiple times in a row multiple times a day. it made me so happy since it’s about sf and i was about to be there, and i love that city :)
ALSO – swept away by the avett brothers. omg. i love that song so much.
@Zen lurve for being manly enough to cop to a Barry Manilow song.
I just stayed in my car for “Mr. Bojangles.” One of my favorite songs of all time.
“Sunshine On My Shoulders” – John Denver
“Sultans of swing” from Dire Straits
i don’t really know what they play on the radio, but if wild world by cat stevens comes on, you will definitely see me singing along really intensely in the car.
