Does anyone know what this Brand New lyric is a reference to?

From the song “Sink” on the new Brand New album “Daisy”
How darkly the dark hand met his end
He was withered and boney, exposed for a phoney
But we heed the last words that he penned
Haste to disgrace the traitor. Do not wait til later
I don’t think that you’ve got to pretend
I see God in birds and Satan in long words
But I know what you need in a friend
So now when I leave you, I hope I won’t see you
I’m trying to figure out this reference, (or if it even is a reference), I’ve seen it online in peoples signatures on message boards etc but can’t find anything else on it. Does anyone know who said it? Or what it’s from?
Thanks!

In the environs of a Brand New song, it could be about the guy who left the band – i forget his name – and formed Straylight Run.
hmmm after a quick trip through wikipedia, I think you might be thinking of Taking Back Sunday…Brand New has all members listed as thru-present
@patg7590 oh you’re right. But i think one of the guys in Brand New used to be associated with TBS. maybe i got it switched around.

john nolan of straylight run used to be in taking back sunday with adam lazzara (of tbs) and jesse of brand new. jesse had a falling out with adam and john for whatever reason, and then jesse wrote the song seventy times seven about it, and john/adam wrote there’s no i in team about it – both songs have a few similar lines (the part that’s like, ‘i’ve seen more spine in jellyfish, blahlahblah, so let’s end this call and end this conversation’).
jesse and john are friends now though, as far as i know. john came out during one of brand new’s shows and sang seventy times seven with him, ironically. but i don’t know about the adam vs john/adam vs jesse thing. but maybe that’s what the line is referring to? if it has anything to do with that whole dramatic little triangle, anyway.
I don’t think this is an original line, I believe it has been said before, as I’ve seen it in people’s signatures on message boards before the cd was released…
I’m trying to figure out where it was derived from, hopefully something deep, most likely with religious connotations, hopefully not something lame like a middle school girl fight amongst ex band members.
@tiffyandthewall see, that’s how i know you’re 17. haha. although, i was about 23–24 when that all went down and i know some of it.
