It’s a brand new garage (element-proof) and I have a new leather sofa and chair that I’m most concerned about. Any tips for proper storage?

I would put the sofa on some cardboard and cover it with plastic, like a tarp or something. What is the climate like where you live? I don’t know what happens to leather if it freezes…
Do not store electronics in a non-heated garage. As for the chair/sofa: Keep them elevated off the cement (you can use Styrofoam blocks under the feet), and I’d recommend covering them to keep mice off/out of them you can get cheap plastic covers at any hardware store that are thick & made for large furniture for this purpose.
Wipe down the leather sofa with a leather preserver which you can purchase at any shop that sells leather goods. Keep everything up off the floor. Cover everything with sheets – I would not recommend plastic, because it allows condensation to form on the inside. A tarp under and over the top of all is good.
I stored a really big and very nice rug in my dads garage once, when I went to collect it it had somehow found it’s way to my aunts dining room in France !!!
Store with caution, I still don’t have that rug back, I don’t think I ever will.
In addition to all of the above, install central air and heating in the garage to prevent to growth of mold.
After reading this thread, I’ve decided to rent a storage unit. It’s going to cost me a bit of coin, but, it’s worth it. The sofa and chair are close to $7000 combined and I would be sick if they were damaged whilst in storage.
Good idea – It should be one of the climate-controlled ones.
I think you typo’ed some extra zeros on there
holy crap
@Darwin I found one, and it is.
@patg7590 Nope, that’s what I paid. They’re beauties.
