Who will snag the 2009 Nobel Prize in Literature?

Asked by Cartman (3054points) October 7th, 2009

The winner will be anounced tomorrow at 1 pm (Swedish time).

My guess is Amos Oz (but then again he might be to well known to merit selection by the Swedish Academy).

Any guesses? Who will get it right?

Probably the author who gave birth to the nightmare that is Twilight.

I don’t know, but I’m just pissed that they skimmed past the Sci-Fi genre again.

@Grisaille We should all be used to that by now.

The tides will change someday, I hope, as long as we have writers doing amazing things in genre work, like Michael Chabon.

Harry Martinson won the prize in 1974 and he wrote Aniara which, although poetry, can only be considered SF. So… in a way, the SF genre has not been without prizes.

OK. so I was wrong. Again. Herta Müller, yet another block buster author. Yay!

I really do have this thread to myself. Whopee! Or…

Anyhow, I think that Astrid Lindgren (Pippi Longstocking etc) should have gotten it. Now she’s, unfortunately, in Nangijala and posthumous nominations are apparently not allowed. However, I still nominate her in defiance of all rules and regulations.

But then again, I have this thread to myself so I can do anything I like.
