Any gift ideas for the big 4-0?

Asked by akmcg (149points) October 7th, 2009

My sister is turning 40 and I need a quick gift idea for her. We are not particularly close, but I would like to send her something to aknowledge the big event. I live far away so this is something that needs to be sent from afar….and quickly. Any ideas?

Granny Panties and a back scratcher.

I’m kidding. What does she enjoy?

Take her to Chuck E. Cheese. But do not tell here where you are going.
Make sure she gets a birthday hat and a cake too.

I don’t really know what she enjoys – she has kids, smokes, doesn’t get outside much. Um, we’re kind of opposites….I THINK she still likes to see live music??

Perhaps see if Ticketmaster (or similar) has gift certificates?

@Sarcasm: Silly. clichéd, unhelpful and not amusing.

My sister just had a birthday too and lives across the state. As the day was fast approaching and I still hadn’t gotten anything in the mail yet, I composed a corny little poem, including some childhood memories and mention of one of her favorite things (ice cream) and e-mailed it to her. That bought me some time to get a card/present in the mail (although it would arrive late) but still let her know that her special day had not been forgotten. Turned out she really loved it!—it was personal and was something no one else could possibly give her.

when I turned 4 decades at the office, mw co-workers had the usual black cake and kinda ‘gothed’ my office. The crowning touch was a remote control fart soundbox. They were ingenious in that they partially disassembled my chair, inserted the device, then put it all as before. All day long, especially when I was on the phone, or when a client (my secretary briefed them when they arrived)they all pretended not to hear the nuclear blasts of heinous grossness. It drove me nuts! I am deaf in one ear so couldn’t get a direction where the box was. When they couldn’t stand it anymore with tears in their eyes from laughing at me searching around the office for the source of the sound, they finally relented and removed the box. I still have it around and may put it under my command chair for next year when I turn 5 decades. (that is if I make it) I think I will.
