How can I get a bigger gig size for my i-pod nano?(yes the first thin nano)

Asked by Mr_Grimm (412points) October 7th, 2009

I would really like to find out how to put more memory on my 1 gig i-pod because I think it’s a great i-pod! If I can get a bigger gig size than I wont have to waste money on a new one, I mean why buy a new one when there’s going to be new, and better i-pods that are going to just keep coming out?

Hmmm…I don’t think it’s possible. There isn’t a lot of space in a iPod like there is in a computer. I could be wrong though.

I’d sell the one you have, and apply that towards a newer one.

But I suppose, if you want to try and take it apart, and put in a larger flash disk, you may end up just ruining it all together.

Ipods are made to be really difficult to upgrade by yourself. They want you to buy a new one. It isn’t like your computer. I don’t know if it’s even physically possible to increase memory of an ipod, but even if it is you need technical skill to do it anyway as it is not nearly as easy as popping some gigs in your computer.

Well you are able to open one but like you guys said.. It’s probably going to ruin the i-pod… however you can open one to change the battery, why not open to change the memory size?

They aren’t designed to be user-serviced. Some of the internal parts are custom-designed to fit in that small a space. (Laptops are much like this too.)

If you understand electronics and are good with a soldering iron, you can try—just accept that you’re as likely to destroy it as to upgrade it. If not, you’re probably better off just buying a new one.
