What's a good novel or collection of poetry to give a 17 year old obsessed with '70s punk rock?

Asked by dannoway (3points) October 8th, 2009

This is a birthday present. I’d rather give fiction or poetry than non-fiction. An art book may also be okay.

_High Fidelity_by Nick Hornby is a good novel about a guy who owns (or manages) a vintage vinyl store.

Basketball Diaries by Jim Carroll? You might want to peruse it first and it’s non-fiction.

Punk Blood by Jay Marvin. He calls it “punk noir”.

not prose fiction but comics: Say You Want A Revolution , written by Grant Morrison.

I would say The Primal Screamer by Nick Blinko from Rudimentary Penii, except that that has gone out of print and a copy would cost a bundle.

Up In the Air: The Collected Film Scripts by Derek Jarman.

@hungryhungryhortence I didn’t know he had written anything. Is there anything that man doesn’t do?

@fundevogel: he’s pretty amazing, I was surprised when I came across his stand up “comedy” via youtube.com
