Am I going crazy or are my concerns legitimate?
For some reason I have noticed an unusually high number of new members on fluther today. And many are posting pretty ridiculous topics! All these posts that are clearly racist, or asking how to make money by having sex, or asking where to find nerds in Arizona? What is happening here?!

I think it was a day off for some schools. There were a lot of trolls on another site I frequent. Many questions/responses were extremely juvenile and crude.
Every so often we have a day like that on here. It’s the nature of the internet.
I was gonna say – is it some sort of holiday today?! :)
I’m not by any means discouraging new people but it seems like along with new people come the strangest, most meaningless questions. I hope I’m not coming off too terribly rude.
Fluther is ‘growing up’ , i.e. expanding the corporate model which obviously must make money some day…....
All the stuff you mention will ‘google ’ like crazy !
The magic is that there is enough here for you ignore it…........ the world of Fluther is definitely bigger that the ‘early cliquish’ model.
Also I will learn some things in a still refreshingly imaginative moderative environment.
someone’s going to ask about “how to make babby” real soon. i can feel it…
Yeah, I noticed some craptacular questions (the racist ones, the bad spelling ones). Meh…just a low point in the ever-fluctuating line graph that is the quality of questions on this site. I will not let a few questions override the great things that have been posted here.
People are stupid….collectively.
I didn’t notice those. What were the racist questions?
@virtualist Fluther has been profitable for quite some time, so I don’t think that has anything to do with it. It’s just one of those days.
@windex ah yes, Croatian Independance Day. explains everything.
Where – where? I haven’t seen them. Examples please of racist and other questions.
@Zen and @holden There aren’t racists posts/questions. Just judgmental finger pointing and hostility.
@Zen <cough, cough> anything by perplexed82. Check out the post. Can’t miss them. They are the posts that have “mexicans” or “Indians” in the title.
Oh. I’ve found them. They were actually @perplexed82‘s questions:
Why do my neighbors who are mostly Subcontinental Indians air out their soiled mattresses on the balconies of their apartment?
Why do (some) Mexicans park on their own lawn?
Why do Hispanics paint the trim of their homes teal, turqoise, or magenta?
You forgot:
Why do Jews count their money in the evening shade of a pineapple tree?
And
Shouldn’t the KKK grow up and, like, join this century and get some fashion sense?
@Zen I’m so glad your post gave me a good laugh! It’s been a long night :)
@Zen was “Why do Jews count their money in the evening shade of a pineapple tree” really a question? Because if it was I’ll go buy a hat and eat it.
do pineapples even grow on trees?
On a serious note: I think this should be given as many Great Questions as possible to show our support for those who point out the trolls.
I think all racist questions should be flagged, and I have put my membership on the line should they not be removed.
Those who gave Great Questions to the racist little twirp’s questions should ask themselves why they did that, and be ashamed of themselves. Is it because she is openly gay that she thinks (and therefore you think) she can get away with racist questions? Or maybe she didn’t include your particular ancestry in her dribble of pondering? Don’t worry, she’ll include you next time.
My uni has midterms this week, and for some classes that means having time off (especially if the midterms are oral and individual not that way). And there were a lot of people missing from my Anthro class today, too.
Oh, and Windows 7 came out today. (Do people actually take days off for these things? Or is it just an excuse?)
@perplexed82 just commented defending trolls in a thread from january of this year. it’s pretty funny.
I’ve only been here for a few months, and have noticed that people come in waves. Just a normal influx of users, is all. Some people stick, others don’t. It’ll all be over soon.
Btw, how is babby formed?
Let the witch hunt begin!
For real…while the questions were indeed tacky, @Jayne and @windex posted some other takes on the nature of these questions and of what racism really is.
