Looking on Wikipedia (Cymbalta; Celexa), the first difference I notice is that Cymbalta is an SNRI and Celexa is an SSRI. So the difference is the Celexa does not inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine. Depending on whether your particular brain chemistry has an adequate amount of norepinephrine, you may or may not notice a difference in effectiveness. You can look at the linked pages to compare the side effects, which seem to be mostly similar.
Everyone reacts differently to drugs, especially those having to do with brain chemistry. It might work for you, it might not. Part of the reason there are so many choices out there. Nothing to do but try it and see what happens. You need to give it at least a couple of months to get all the Cymbalta out and really start seeing how effective Celexa is.
P.S. Celexa is very similar to Lexapro. If you’ve ever tried that one, you might be able to gauge effectiveness.
