How do you create a pie chart in iWork's Numbers?

Asked by Elumas (3170points) October 11th, 2009

I’m making a spreadsheet in Numbers of the amount of driving I’m doing for my license. I want to make a pie chart showing the amount of night driving versus the amount of daytime driving I’ve done. Each session is labeled as either night or day, but I can’t seem to make the data into a pie chart.

Sorry for my poor explanation, you can see the actual file here

Select the data and click “Charts” at the top. Select the image of the pie graph.

Alternatively, select the data and go to Insert -> Chart -> Pie

Why don’t you search on google create a graph. The first link is an easy one to use

You can do it in excel with chart wizard. That way, as you update your time, you can update the chart, and output your data in other formats quite easily.

@PandoraBoxx That’s awesome, but it doesn’t help me at all.

@Elumas, sorry. Let me dig into iWorks and see how it’s different from what you do in excel. I spit out pie charts all day long at work (PC environment) and haven’t been into iWorks at home in awhile… You should still have to start with a data table.

Open>New>Blank
This opens a spreadsheet.
Create your data table….

Did you get that far?

Yeah, I figured it out, it just seemed like you were trying to instigate a Mac/PC, Windows/OSX, Office/iWork fanboy battle, you weren’t so it’s alright :)

It works the exact same way in excel as it does in Numbers, in case you ever need to know.

Enter the data in the table, sum the table using the Sigma key (or function in Number), highlight the columns you want to include, go to the insert chart function.
