Best movie ending you've ever seen?
You invest a couple hours into a movie and once in a while you see one that leaves you a tad breathless. What movie was that for you?

V for Vendetta, don’t know if it was a breathless feeling.
I have to say Old Boy
What a surprise!
I guess I should have added that I’m a true sucker for romance so for me a couple of movies with pretty good endings were An Officer and A Gentleman. When Richard Gere marched into the factory and swept Debra Winger off her feet….sigh. The other would be The Way We Were. Barbara does it better.
I loved the Saw movies, can’t wait for the next one
The Life of David Gale
Philadelphia
Also: Pan’s Labyrinth, Full Metal Jacket, Escape from Alcatraz, Gran Torino, Million Dollar Baby and Herzog’s Nosferatu,
Nobody’s mentioned Casablanca yet!
Ahhh, Casablanca. I had forgotten that one. I think I’ll rent that this weekend.
Eulogy, Charade, Gladiator, A Knight’s Tale…those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Inside Man was had a great feel to it too.
Gran Torino,
Secret Window
Casablanca
Can’t really pick just one, here’s my top ten
The Sixth Sense
Inglorious Basterds
Dancer in the Dark
Office Space
Donnie Darko
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Big Fish
American Beauty
In the Bedroom
The Devil’s Rejects
80s action flicks had the best endings. The good guys defeat the bad guys. The end. One that felt great was Rocky 4.
@Jack_Haas – you’d probably like Inglorious Basterds then.
Oh I forgot The Empire Strikes Back. Vader having that little talk with Luke was a total mind-fu*k
@dalepetrie Thanks for the tip but I think I’ll pass. No more WW2 movies or video games for a loooong time.
If it helps, the ending is not at all historically accurate, but is quite satisfying nonetheless. Definitely an ending worthy of an 80s action flick, only about one millionth percent as predictable.
Any porn movie. It’s all about the moneyshot at the end.
Matrix Reloaded. I couldn’t sleep at night trying to figure out what the fuck was going on.
@dalepetrie No I just had a bad reaction to COD World at war, one WW2 shooter too many… but I’ll keep it in mind for when this phase is over.
Casablanca
Chaplin’s City Lights
Pulp Fiction (ending where we started)
A Letter to Three Wives
The Color Purple
Jaws
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Seventh Seal
Some Like it Hot
Blazing Saddles
Star Wars.
The Shawshank Redemption.
Serenity
I thought Something’s Gotta Give had a great ending, er, until they let it go on for five more minutes and entirely screwed it up.
Oh, To Catch A Thief! Fantastic.
the closing minutes of Valerie and Her Week of Wonders.
One of the 20 endings of The Lord of the Rings was good but I can’t remember which one! :-)
‘Pretty Woman’ – OMG I was SOOO jealous of Vivian!!! I wanted Richard Gere to come and rescue me! (and ‘Officer and a Gentleman’ comes in a darn close second – also due to the R.G. factor – but because it was an awesome ending!)
The Birds! Had you on the edge till the credits!
Brick, just because it was beautiful.
The Brothers Bloom
Sunshine
Kill Bill Vol 2
I HEART HUCKABEES had the best conversation at the end of a movie that I have ever seen.
The Game
Identity
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
and the slideshow at the end of the Hangover. YES.
I really liked the end of District 9. Like it really wasn’t that special, but it just rang well with me and pull my heartstrings to the right emotional degree of my liking.
@aprilsimnel: Oh hey :) I’ve been missing for awhile, but, hopefully, this will be the start of my triumphant return!
Welcome back, Tits! We’ve missed you big time.
Without a doubt, Harold and Maude. Not only is the ending great, the entire movie is wonderful and worth watching over and over again. Every time I watch it, I catch something i hadn’t noticed before. Want to be uplifted by a movie with a seemingly dark premise? Although it touches on dark subjects (death, funerals, suicidal feelings), it is really LIFE-affirming and positive.
Saving Private Ryan – Earn it!
Back in the present, the elderly veteran is revealed to be Ryan at Miller’s grave.
Ryan asks his wife to confirm that he has led a good life and that he is a “good man”, and thus worthy of Miller’s and the others’ sacrifice. He then salutes Miller’s grave as the camera pans down the gravestones to the American flag and fades out.
I tear up every time.
@janbb: Thank you, I missed everyone too! The stresses of school really got me there for a minute, but I hope I’m back for good now :D
Legends of the Fall. “It was a good death.”
Halloween.
Thelma & Louise.
removed by wildpotato because she thought she was in her own account
Monsters Ball
Barton Fink
Old Yeller
Also In Bruges. I thought the ending was spectacular, and I still wonder what exactly happened.
Oh my god.
How did I forget THE USUAL SUSPECTS? Kevin Spacey at his best!
