Is the pilot bearing shot in my '94 Celica?

Asked by floppyballmcduff (10points) October 12th, 2009

I own a ‘94 Toyota Celica and I had a new clutch kit put in it about 12 months ago and about a month ago it started developing a problem which I was told was possibly a pilot bearing. The symptoms are that the car won’t shift into third gear, idles a bit high, has a high-pitched whine when driving and a bit of a burning smell that doesn’t smell like a fluid but more of a metallic burning. Can anyone confirm if this might be the pilot bearing or might it be something else?

My suggestion? Put less of the question in the title, more in the description, then call The Car Guys. ...and welcome to Fluther.
