If you're a reader, do you find yourself really involved in the good books, and your SO has to live with it?

Like, if you’re reading and your SO tries to get your attention, do they get used to hearing, “Wait! Wait! Mt. Vesuvius is about to blow up!! Or, “Wait! Wait! The parent robots just wound up deactivated, like, they DIED leaving the kids all alone on the space ship 40,000 light years from home!” (Nod to Mattbrowne!) Or, “Wait! Wait! Seabiscuit is coming around that 4rd turn at Pimlico…and he’s out running War Admiral!!!” (I still get chills!)

Yes, absolutely and you can not bother me during it.

We’re both voracious readers & we read in front of the TV every night. But if one of us has something to say, we say it & it’s fine with the other. We don’ get so immersed in a book that it shuts everything else out.

Having to fight a book for my attention is one of the many things my poor husband has to suffer through in life. He handles it very well, especially considering he will say something to me, I will answer him coherently, and then later will have no memory of the conversation. Or, I’ll remember that he asked me something and know that I answered, but not be able to say what we discussed. However, I do not read in bed, so he has no competition there.

Ha ha! That happens with me all the time. I get so immersed in books that I’ll carry one around with me and read it any time I have five spare minutes. Usually I have an interesting enough time hanging out with the people I date that I can put the book down. But if it’s new, and it’s a page-turner, I might accidentally neglect them for a while.

@MissAusten Bed? LOL! Wait! Wait! I’m getting to the good part…no not YOU! Wait!

@Haleth I don’t exactly neglect him. I don’t read during my time with him on the weekends or after work (or fluther, usually), but, like, if I’m getting to a very interesting part, and he shows up I just need a sec to get to a good stopping point. Vesuvius getting ready to blow up is not a good stopping point!! LOL!

Hell, I have had multiple emotional affairs with the people in my books. Thinking about it, I probably should change my facebook status to “in an open relationship.”

With Harry Potter’s 4 through 6 (which I pre-ordered through Amazon) I told my husband that he would have to understand that I would be busy reading on Saturday and Sunday. I would do laundry, but all forms of food were up to him!

@Val123 I see you’ve never encountered the seductive charms of Mr. Woodcourt or Count Vhronsky.

@holden Can’t say as I have!

I can’t say that I have had this problem in a relationship, but I did have it at work. I was a projectionist at a theater for a long time and we barely had any work to do while the movies were running. We were supposed to stay in the booth for our entire shift. I was able to start all eight screens in about 30 minutes. Then I would read or sleep for two hours until they needed to be restarted.

So I would sit and read for a few hours. Sometimes I would get really into a book and I would just keep reading until someone complained about the movie not starting. Sometimes I could go about 30 minutes before anyone said anything.

I miss that job.

Since I mainly read in the bathroom these days, and there is only one bathroom in the house… the biggest problem is me monopolizing the bathroom when I’m really into a book. :)

@augustlan I get all my best reading done in the bathroom. High five!

@augustlan LOL! “Mom! You’ve been in there for two hours!”.....“Don’t worry about me, kids! I’m strong! I’m fine!”

“I’ll be out in a minute!” :D
