I know someone who did this by going to help and using the Microsoft online tutorials. It’s a pretty amazing way to learn it. Otherwise, you’re only picking skill up on a need to know basis.

Go to the bookstore and buy a book on Excel. Excel is really complex and picking it up from random links is going to be slow and painful. And you can read a book before bed or while you are in the bathroom. Or you can look for a eBook.

The internet is good for solving specific problems. Not so much for learning a specific program.

Once you have a basic knowledge of Excel, a good place to get advice and solutions to problems is www,mrexcel.com. They have a huge database of questions asked in the last ten years and some tutorials.

But this is not a good place for someone who has no knowledge of the application.

Johnpowell is right, get a book or two about Excel. The ones which have large graphics may be easier to follow since they are showing the entire spreadsheet to you.
Many of these books come with a CD inserted into the end cover. The CD contains problems that track what the book is showing you graphically. It is like using a workbook only on the PC. Don’t just look at the pictures, follow along with the CD.

You can find extensive collections of video tutorials on Youtube

Microsoft also has many training resources for all its products.

I dont think books are all that helpful if you want to learn Excel (besides, they are pretty expensive), the best way is just learning by doing. Just create a spreadsheet and enter some data and play around with the graph buttons (for example enter some of your bills from your credit card report, and try to graph the amount you’ve spent in a month on different categories (food, gas etc)).

If you really need a written text to help you i suggest googling “excel tutorial” possiby with what you want to do afterwards as “excel tutorial enter data” or “excel tutorial graphing” or even “excel tutorial keep track of my spending”. Online tutorials are often very to the point and helpful, often more so than any books, and also alot cheaper.
