What are the laws about cruelty to WILD animals?

Asked by steelerspilot (180points) October 14th, 2009 from iPhone

I was wondering about the animal cruelty laws for Wild animals. I want the laws for the whole USA or Florida. I was wondering about this when I read an article about animal cruelty to a domestic animal.

lol, Darwin I would edit that response while you still can.

steelerspilot's avatar

@Darwin Um, what does that have to do with my question

hahahaha

Can somebody answer my question

The question I answered had to do with Jacksonville, Florida. I swear it did.

As to animal cruelty laws for wild animals, they exist but not specifically in that form. Native animals are protected by both state and federal laws. To possess one, or a part of one, or do something to one you need to have very specific permits and licenses from the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the equivalent State organization, and sometimes also the USDA (if the critter in question is warm-blooded). Fines for misbehaving can be quite hefty (up to $50,000) and there is jail time involved, also.

I can vouch for Darwin, OP edited the question to something entirely unrelated after Darwin responded.

I am not going answer – I’ll tell what the law is regarding wild animals and you’ll change the question to laws regarding mothers-in-Law, industrial refrigeration or something equally inappropriate to the response.

@Ivan I will change to a differant topic again!!! Just kidding

@steelerspilot The old bait and switch, huh? You rascal.

The day before we broke up, my ex girlfriend admitted to me (while laughing yet completely serious) that she attempts to hit small animals as she is driving. I grilled her on it to make sure she wasn’t lying; apparently unless it’s a dog or a cat, she guns it and swerves to hit the animal. She’s only gotten one squirrel so far as I know. Now, I’m an avid hunter but I do it for the meat, and if I were surrounded by cars and unable to swerve or brake and a bird was in front of my there’s nothing I can do… but she’s just sick. Right?

She called it Darwinism.

Fucking bitch.

Darwin's avatar

That is not Darwinism. Tell her I said so.

O's avatar

@steelerspilot Why do you want to know about animal cruelty laws?

DarkScribe's avatar

@trumi

I have seen that on Bumper Stickers: “Warning – I swerve to hit animals”.

It is right up there with “Save the whales – (for later)”.

…all creatures except domesticated creatures are by definition ‘wild’ animals. In any case most humans will kill them to survive….... or for entertainment (.. think about the beautiful black Spanish bulls who have never seen a human on foot until he is released into the bull ring…..... and then methodically slaughtered as a cultural act of beauty…..

Somewhere inbetween all that are some laws which preserve some anti-inhumane legal standing for some creatures…......

steelerspilot's avatar

@O Because I know about domestic animal cruelty laws, but not about wild animal cruelty laws

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

Any kind of animal abuse is illegal.
Otherwise wild creatures would be poached to extinction.

Darwin's avatar

@Ivan – Hunting is legal only if you have the license and follow the rules about what, when, where, how, and how many.

Ivan's avatar

@Darwin

The animals still die.

rangerr's avatar

@steelerspilot Are you planning on abusing a wild animal? I don’t see how this question is relevant.. all abuse is wrong.
Edit: And illegal.

DarkScribe's avatar

@rangerr I don’t see how this question is relevant

Relevant to what? All questions are relevant to the person asking.

@DarkScribe Maybe I’d understand better if he posted a reason for asking. I just find it an odd question.

that’s just my opinion though

RedPowerLady's avatar

well if the asker is just being funny by changing the question I take back my GQ, that is annoying

filmfann's avatar

no, you can’t get a sexually transmitted disease by having sex with isolated farm animals in captivity

Stop changing the question!

Darwin's avatar

@Ivan – Yes, the animals still die, but supposedly they die “humanely” and in any case they die legally.

Zen's avatar

Rule number 1: No sex.

O's avatar

10–4. No sex. Animals. I am not sure if this thread is making more sense or less. And wth! Is that Boy George?

Zen's avatar

@O Yes, but it’s just a joke between markyy and me. It’ll change back soon – I think.

O's avatar

@Zen Oh it is as it should. And no, I don’t really wanna hurt you.

rooeytoo's avatar

I am such a musical dunce, but I am getting educated in here. I had no idea what @O‘s question meant or that Boy George sang that song. I like it. What year was that? I always like to relate songs to a time in my life.

And @Zen – what happened to the bangs or fringes? There is a question about them going on right now.

I don’t know what the laws are but I hope they carry a stiff penalty. I hate animal cruelty in any way shape or form.

I just watched a doco that said factory farmed chicken has a much higher fat content than free range therefore is not any better for you than red meat. It isn’t safe to eat anything anymore!!!

janbb's avatar

@all – I’m totally confused and would never abuse an animal in Jacksonville!
