How late is too late to eat a snack?
While i’m studying, doing my homework…. or at least attempting to do my homework, i like to snack on fruits and things like that. (Usually never junk). But after 9:00pm, is it still okay to have snacks? I’ve heard that eating after 9:00pm can turn into fat, or contribute to getting fat? What if i eat a big juicy pear at 10:00pm? Will i gain weight or fat? Should i not eat fruit after 9:00pm then?

I don’t see how fruit can contribute to gaining weight, but I’ve always been told not to eat an hour before bedtime.
Well, i’ve also heard that over-eating on anything turns to fat… or something like that. So for example, if someone was full, but still kept eating, even if it was healthy, it would just turn to fat. (not sure if that is true entirely.)
Quite frankly, as long as you don’t have GERD, you can eat just about any time. If you do have GERD, then you need to have your last food two to four hours before you go to bed, or else you will have heartburn all night.
Besides, fruit is good for you, full of fiber and vitamins and stuff like that, so a bit of fruit really isn’t the problem. It’s the pepperoni pizza and the chocolate you need to avoid.
Thats a myth. You gain weight when you intake more calories then your body burns. It doesn’t matter what time you eat, especially if you’re eating fruit. Fruit is good for you, don’t feel guilty for it.
@kheredia, that makes me feel a lot better =]
The idea behind that is that if you eat soon before going to sleep you will take in energy but not use it. If you’re staying up all hours of the night, it’s probably ok to eat something after 9.
There really is no “too late”.
If you are active, you can eat whatever/whenever. I recently ate an entire box of Girlscout cookies (about 1100 calories) just before going to bed. No effect whatsoever, but I am very active.
HAHAHAHAH it’s 4 am here and I just literally ate a half a box of rice crispies. But i was starving and i just got off work so FFFFFF watching your figure. eat up. mmm.
I have been told by a nutritionist and a trainer to stop eating three hours before I go to bed.
I think the main reason people say not to eat “too late”, whatever that might be, is that it can interfere with sleep. YMMV.
Big juicy pears are no problem the whole evening and night. When you study all night your brain needs energy.
If your asleep, it’s too late. Doctors usually recommend starches before bedtime if you are feeling hunger pains, as they fill you quickly and help you fall asleep (warm noodles, rice) or a warm mug of milk.
