Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?

I always go to the fridge and look in, for no reason.
What is that about?

LOL…this is so funny. & everyone does it. Just…hoping.
I do that.
often once I’ve done it enough, someone will offer to make me something.
success!
It’s not because you’re hoping something new will be there. It’s because you’re wondering if now you’re hungry enough to settle for that jar of olives….
@MrItty or to go at the Cool Whip with a spoon.
mold has powerful capabilities.
It’s because perhaps something new will evolve, or perhaps that jar of pickled herring will become a nice chocolate cake through the magic of biogenesis. Cod works in mysterious ways, you know.
pickled herring? Cod?
Where are you from? lol
I mean good stuff. Just unusual.
@ChazMaz Pickled herring IS good stuff. I have a big jar right here…......
@ChazMaz Where are you from?
A planet whose name no longer matters, as the Mother Ship is NOT coming back for me. sigh
I think the food fairy will have put in a delicious, inviting to treat to eat!
I so do that.
@gussnarp: I wouldn’t have to go back a second time to consider eating the Cool Whip with a spoon. LOL
@poofandmook Maybe it’s more finally giving in to the desire.
My flatmate sometimes puts random food in my cupboard that she doesn’t want…so it actually works for me ^^
sometimes, I will take part of something, convincing myself that I won’t eat the whole thing, but I just end up going back to fridge till it’s gone.
at least I get exercise that way
Why not? That’s what I say to myself every time, that chance that you missed a spectacular assortment of champagne and caviar and what not is still waaaaaay bigger than winning the Power Ball or the Loto or something. The chance that there is a little something worth nibbling on must then be rather decent. And if there’s nothing then at leas I get some excercise. That’s how I reason. Why not?!?
It’s not so much that I think something will materialize, as that I think my mind might change about what I want if I go back. Of course, in that state of indecision… I don’t know what to say, now]
I think if I open the fridge this time, a miraculous recipe not seen since the rise of Julia Child will come to me with the ingredients of capers, mustard and whatever it is in that bit of Tupperware in the back that I’m afraid to look into and find out what it is.
All I know is I do not know why I do it. Not even hungry.
Since I am there I find something to eat.
Referring back to my question about why the dryer eats socks, there’s always the possibility that this time it has turned them into chocolate eclairs!
(I do believe in socks, I do believe in socks, I do believe in socks.)
Like the Tooth Fairy, perhaps there is a fridge fairy?
Ya know.. I find myself looking in the dryer from time to time, too.
Looking in the fridge helps me to remember what it was I was going into the bathroom for, but forgot once I got there. Sticks head in fridge. “Oh yeah! I haveta pee!
How does food get in there without materializing? I don’t understand.
Nope, nothing this time either. Not even a jar of suspicious looking pickles.
Doesn’t the phrase “hope springs eternal” fit this circumstance just perfectly?
@Jayne Maybe you have to ask @Harp how food gets in the fridge? :-)
I wish cheese cake would spring eternal.
@Val123 Cheesecake would actually springform eternal, wouldn’t it?
Yes! Cheesecake! This one!
gawd you guys, now I really want cheesecake
Hee hee. Sometimes my wife will do that (I do it too) and then she’ll ask me, “you look, mayne you’ll find something.” I think it’s boredom.
@patg7590 well I must be an alien, because the Heaven’s Gate guys are all dead, and they also cut off their balls. I still have all three of my testicles and the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.
@skfinkel I almost fell out of my chair @hope spring eternal.
Same reason crackheads will dig through shag carpeting for hours looking for that “crumb” they dropped.
Wait, are we talking about a frizzer that could have pancakes in it? If so, they need to check that frizzer, even if it’s underneath the pool!
@eponymoushipster THAT is too much! Just say no to drugs, man. How do you save something like that???
@Val123 save it, what do you mean? that Q is fluther history, my young padowan.
@eponymoushipster . . .I believe that the restraining order clearly states you no longer use the term “padowan”.
@eponymoushipster you callin’ me young?? Humphers! I meant, is there some place you can stash it so you can find it again easily…
@Val123 yes, the google search bar up top. just type “frizzer”.
@Blondesjon “pet me one”. similar but different.
LOL, i don’t know, but it’s really funny. I’d go to the fridge and have a look, find nothing, then go to the pantry and stand there looking for something, find nothing and try the fridge again.
I suppose we’re hoping we missed something the first time around, hehe. :D
