How does Fluther show users responding in real-time? Is it Ajax?

Asked by Ranimi23 (1917points) October 16th, 2009

How come I can see when user is typing me an answer at real time. How it’s working? I think it’s great and will be glad to know how it works.

I was going to guess Javascript, but I’m probably wrong.

It’s technically AHAH. We rewrote the whole presence framework recently to use memcached instead of the database since we were getting isolation level discrepencies due to the large number of writes. No more flickering!

Fluther actually wrote about his topic on their blog a little while back.

It gives a general overview of how they do it.

A very interesting read.
