Anyone familiar with where I can get a free fantasy world map creator?

Asked by MrBr00ks (1752points) October 17th, 2009

The book No plot? No problem! by Chris Baty gave a suggestion to make a fantasy world map ahead of time so one isn’t constantly back tracking, etc. in a story. I can do this on my own, but I want to save time, and google search isn’t helping in my state of sleepiness. Any ideas? I appreciate your time.

What exactly are you looking for? A random world generator, or a tool that makes drawing maps easier?

I’d just draw it myself, with some actual maps for reference. If you’re bent on making it realistic it does take some time, but I think it’s worth it. At least it’ll be your world that way.

In fact, I’ve done this before. Twice. It’s much more fun to do it yourself. :)
I based my maps on a layman’s understanding of plate tectonics. I created one big “pangaea” continent first and then made sections of it drift apart. I love plagiarising the real world. :P

this should help. it would really help next time to specify whether you mean Windows, Mac or other OS’es.

If he doesn’t mention it, I think it’s safe to assume he’s a Windows user.
