Help! Someone changed my Fluther password!
I can’t log on to the site. It’s saying my password and/or username are incorrect. I made no changes. Someone hacked into my email account too, because I can’t log in there either. What do I do???

I need help ASAP! Some of my bank account information is in my email!
anyone want to put money on the answer being CAPSLOCK?
Um, no. It’s not on, and I can’t log into my email. It’s saying my password is incorrect.
Yikes, I am so sorry this is happening to you.
Oh, fuck. I have to check my bank password. Please cross your fingers for me! I can’t use that support@fluther thing, either! I have no idea what the fuck to do.
Take some deep breaths, and call your bank first.
Well, shit, I’m sorry this is happening to you. Keep us posted.
yeah, I’d call the bank first.
What the Heretic said. Take a deep breath, relax. OK: If you genuenly suspect fraud…
1) Call your bank; ask about cancelling your account(s) and moving your money to a new one. You’ll probably have to go to a branch in person tomorrow (paperwork, passwords, etc.)
2) Perhaps cancel your ATM/debit card(s) – request new ones. While you’re there, withdraw some cash to hold you over until the new card arrives.
3) Set up a new eMail account and contact the compromised eMail provider. Explain the situation. Hopefully they can recover some of your eMails before they close the account.
4) For now, alert only close friends and family of your new eMail address.
5) Contact support here at Fluther and they may be able to retrieve you account (or at least screen name) and set you up on a new account.
6) Calmly think of any other accounts/memberships etc. that may be compromised by somone accessing your eMail. Contact them and shut those accounts down orchange passwords if you can.
Don’t panic. It’ll be OK.
Not to be that person, but you don’t sound like her at all. Even with adding the distress of the situation.
Hopefully, it all works out. And I truly hope in some ways my suspicions are right and you’re not Drastic, because I’d hate for that to happen to her. Follow @cprevite‘s instruction, he’s got this covered.
It’s me, miss Monet. I don’t sound like myself because I’m stressed.
Okay, now I’m sad for you. :(
PM Andrew, Ben or a mod. They may be able to verify your identity some other way. Like checking your IP Address if they wouldn’t accept a new email. Although, I’m not sure that’s even something they’ll go with.
That covers Fluther at least. CALL YOUR BANK, WOMAN.
Actually, before you do that, try logging in one more time to Fluther using a different browser. Sometimes it’s just stupidity on the browsers part.
[mod says] I have forwarded the information to Bendrew. Hopefully, we’ll get the Fluther part sorted quickly.
@asmonet: I suspect Bendrew might be OK with that. I remember @Daloon had his account reinstated after he cancelled it and went Rancid.
@cprevite: But he still had his email to verify his identity. If her email has been compromised they can’t verify through it – like when you lose your password normally. Who is to say, despite her statements to the contrary that it is her? Just some person who knows her and wants to mess with her? It’s a bit different than a change of heart.
@DD: Im sorry for the stress. I’ve had similar things happen. It’s a pain, but it’ll work out.
@asmonet: This is true. But there must be some other way to verify it’s her.
Okay, I called the bank and closed my old accounts, so that part is taken care of. Unfortunately, I have an idea of who this could be. I just sent something to the people at gmail, said my account had been taken over. Set up a temporary address for them to reach me, so hopefully I hear something soon.
That’s really crummy that someone you know would do this to you.
The saying “All is fair in love and war” might apply to this situation, unfortunately… :( God, I kind of hope I’m wrong and that it is a random stranger.
Oh, that sucks. I’m glad you’re on top of it!
This is why I included #4 (above). It’s often someone you know.
I had an ex boyfriend that got the passwords to all of my accounts. They were on top of my computer desk, just there for the taking because I trusted him. I trust no one now. Luckily, he did no damage that I know of.
@chyna Yeah. He created an account here, a while ago. I checked to see the last time he logged in and it was today sometime. Doesn’t look too good.
I hope it turns out okay for you. It’s a pain to change all your bank accounts, emails etc.
@chyna Thank you. If it was him, I know my bank accounts wouldn’t have been touched, because I just don’t think he’d go that far, so I’m at least lucky that way.
Wow, I feel bad for you. Doing all of this. My gmail was hacked about two months ago. The hacker got into my contacts and emailed my friend a virus which crashed his website. We figured out with police help the hacker was from Cuba and if he ever comes to the US he is going to jail. He is like 24 the cop told me. It was a gmail
@DD: Ya want we should go “visit” this guy?
::cracks knuckles::
@cprevite. Sounds interesting.
As he loads bullets in pistol and talks on fluther
No jail time for my Flutherers on my behalf, but thanks for the offer.
What would be really screwed up if he did it is that he actually called me today after not speaking to me for quite a while. There was nothing weird about his voice or how he was talking or anything, but I guess there wouldn’t be.
@cprevite After I get her out of her fairy wings and tutu, I’ll put on her spiked collar and we are ready!

Chances are, one of the sites logs IP address, so you may be able to at least find out the city of the person changing the passwords. Sorry this happened to you, it’s way shitty. :\
The only things that have been changed as far as I can tell are this site and my gmail. I wonder if gmail logs the IP addresses? What kind of trouble would he be looking at if gmail does find out it was him?
If you feel a crime has been committed against you, filing a police report is an option.
I may be missing something, but how did you post this question if you couldn’t log in?
@jackm She made a new account.
@Dog
ohhhhh, so yeah I was missing something.
@cprevite: Pfft, we all know you’re super cuddly.
Can we at least send out the flying monkeys?
I can’t log on to my new account. I think the person that hacked me before hacked my new name as well! And my new email account! What do I do???
Phtbtbtbtttt. That’s a raspberry.
Okay, DrasticDreamer3 is not me. That’s someone just fucking around.
Anyway, I talked to my ex and he admitted that it was him after a while. I’m now back into my gmail account, and I had Fluther email me a new password, so that is set too. I’m glad it was him, just because I know that I don’t have to worry about my bank account being screwed with… But yeah… That’s where it ends, I guess.
THIS IS JUST LIKE THE BALOON THING!!!
@Dog Or is it? Maybe her account is still compromised.
<—- <Devil’s Advocate>
@DrasticDreamer yeah i haven’t really been paying attention to that whole mess.
I just want to thank everyone who was doing their best to give me advice and help me out. I can breathe easy knowing that my personal information is safe. On that note, I’m getting off the computer for now because I need a damn cigarette.

Well all’s well that ends well.
@asmonet: Yes…but I look menacing. ;-/
@DrasticDreamer, just so you know, you can see your gmail account activity. If you look at the very bottom of the In Box screen, below the green sentence that says how much storage you’re using, there is a sentence that says Last account activity: 0 minutes ago at this IP (Your IP number here) Details The detail link
Last part deleted- should say The detail link shows the last 5 times your e-mail was accessed, and from what IP. If you access your e-mail through an app like Apple Mail, that shows as an IMAP address.
@cprevite: Menacing like a puppy guard dog. Baby bulldogs still look cuddly! :)
Yay, DD! I’m happy you’re back and sidenote…. that this dude was an ex.
wow! its weird that you didnt let anyone know that you did the same axact thing only a week earlier!
Have you tried getting in touch with the person that hosts these sites? That might help.
