On Facebook, what happens when I uncheck “publish to stream” permissions for an application? What IS “publish to stream,” anyway?

Granting “Publish to stream” permissions means you’re giving permission for that application to post events to your news feed.
For example, if you granted it to a running application, and you used it it might make a post that said “chaosrob ran a mile!” and your friends would also see that in their newsfeed.
Fluther asks for this permission so we can publish when you ask a question (but we’ll always ask you before we post to your newsfeed on a per question basis).
“Stream” is your contributions to others newsfeeds. If you uncheck it, others won’t see that you are using an application, but if you check it, everyone that you are friends with will see it (assuming of course that you are active on their newsfeed).
So, I should be able to uncheck “Publish to Stream” on pretty much everything, and then use apps without notifying other that I’m doing it, right?
@chaosrob That is correct. Some developers are wise to this though and don’t let you have access to their application unless you provide them with access to your friends walls. (These tend to be those irritating apps that clog up your newsfeed and send you messages).
