I want to change the specific background of the text in Microsoft word.

I followed following steps but i didn’t get the actual result which is supposed to.
I went to Format>Background
then i selected grey color but if i select color from there then the color of entire word file is changed.
please provide me a solution for this.
I want to change the background color of the specific text not all the file color.

Format menu – borders and shading/shading/fill

I have Microsoft office 2000. i could not find the sub paths.Can you provide the sub paths in office 2000?.

@blinkErri @DarkScribe is right.
1. Select the text you want to have shading.
2. Format menu->Borders and shading->Shading.
In the shading tab, choose your fill and patterns, and then from the “Apply to” drop-down list, select the text (paragraph if you want the whole paragraph to have shading). Click OK.
